Kill llOwnerSay() Particle Swirls

A simple request, can we get rid of the llOwnerSay() particle swirls? I suppose the reason llOwnerSay() was added was because it's a more efficient function than llInstantMessage(llGetOwner(), "blah blah)?

Since the purpose of llOwnerSay() is to communicate with the owner only, there's no need for the visual cue. Plus, it's distracting to wear attachments that call llOwnerSay() to give data or instructions, only to have those swirls on each function call. Maybe if the object is attached to an avatar, swirls off... if it's not attached, swirls on.

Nuhuh - I like knowing which of my many "Objects" has gone hyper-chatty on me. The particles must stay! :p

I actually agree with both of you. Sometimes I want to know specifically which object sent the message but other times I'm just outputting masses of debug info and the swirls get very annoying. Maybe the effect could just be toned down a bit so we can still see it when we need to but it doesn't create so much of a mess?

maybe a script option.
llOwnerSay("I Don't Swirl", FALSE);
llOwnerSay("I Swirl", TRUE);

I actually agree with both points here. It does get distracting on an attachment and it also gets distracting in a vehicle (sometimes I think there are things rezing out in front of me). I also like to know what item is being too chatty in a large group, especially when they are all named object.

:cool:

I would prefer it as a client option, rather than an option within the script.

Yea, that would better.

I'd be happy with either option, so long as it is indeed an option!
