As an artist, I appreciate that busted up ruin of a road we all see here and there, but I would like to see a nice, solid, smooth highway we can use that actually goes somewhere. A place to take your car or chopper cross country and back again, and without sinking into the ground because of lag please!

I think a lot of us were really excited when the beautiful road system went in. For a while there was a real premium on getting roadside plots. But then the reality sunk in that it's almost impossible to travel very far on those roads, as you said, because of the headaches with crossing sims in vehicles.
I keep looking at them and thinking "one day. . ." For now, you might try boating on some of the rivers in SL. Boats seem a litle bit easier to control and that 5 seconds of dropping under the world and back up when crossing sims doesn't have the same kind of disasterous results as it does with cars usually. |

Yeah, I wanted to do a virtual road trip across the open-air Americana autobahn myself... whatever that means. But really, I don't have wheels yet and I'm a bit iffy about it because of what you described, Tina.
Maybe someone will set up more of an extended Venice, or Bangkok waterways like a certain James Bond movie. ![]() _____________________

Waterways actualy seem to go in circles and have less dead ends.
The current highway is a great idea, but I find it either too easy to fall off of, or get stuck on sim borders, and also the fact that most of the roads lead to dead ends is just annoying. I think if the roadways actualy met eachother in more places, and instead of having dead ends for expansions, have off-ramps for expansions (like real highways do). How many times have you traveled a real highway just to meet a dead end? Right now, the best highways in SL are the waterways. _____________________

Maybe LL should texture the highway onto the ground mesh. You can safely cross sims when youre on the ground.

I took a look, and noticed that there is connected roadway all the way from my home (and rez stop) in Hooper, which is pretty damn close to the center of the grid, to the far reaches of snow country.
I took a bike ride, and except for the roadblock at the Tethys/Arlberg border that is pictured in the attached .jpg, and which I easily got past by using the Edit tool while riding my bike, I was able to ride the entire length. - Ace _____________________

And another pic from this roadtrip, taken after my lilone and I smashed into a snowbank while crossing a sim boundary.

Whatever happened to the TransSim Railway? I see the tracks and a couple of stations, but no train! I think it would be cool to take a train ride across the many sims.
Who do we have to bribe to get the TransSim Highway & the TransSim Railway functioing? _____________________

Build it and they will come?? Perhaps we need a rail/highway baron to buy the land needed to get across. Train trips sound cool, and would be a delight, especially through the snow regions! Imagine the parties on board! Uffffff but the lag.

Hmm, anyone want to invest? I could build the railway and autobahn. It would be a challenge that the Alexander Martov Development Corporation seeks!

Alexander:
I'd be interesting in investing, but where it the potential payoff? I mean I doubt its from dwell because thats going to be spread thinly across the entire world. Oh BTW, "doing it because its fun and helps SL" is a worthy answer too, just wanted to know if the great man had ideas about making money off it! ![]() |

WTF when ever i complained about road quality on the forums nobody ever posted
.But i'm glad people besides me care about road quality (and the lindens have been getting better at it) I guess it's time to go out again and collect locations of all the problem areas (again). And don't you just love those kind folks who buy land next to the roadways and then restrict access to it? _____________________
