Remove Linden Hot Air Balloon from Balloon Docks at the Welcome Area(s), and allow Residet Hot Air balloons the ability to dock there to give Newbie Tours.

The Linden balloon's tour is really anchient, and plus, the balloon doesnt even work! Daniel Linded came and took a look at the script in the balloon and still could not get it off the ground. Hank's balloons are better anyways....

I'd like to see this. Maybe it could even have a docking point that scripted balloons could guide to via a standard docking format.

I support this. I personally haven't had anybody ask me about the balloons, but, I have heard others say they've been asked. And I always enjoy seeing people floating around in balloons, whether they are Hank's or Fairlight-Chang's.

I also support this universal docking idea, based on that there are more balloons than Hank's designs.

That balloon currently hits a building mid-route!
On the subject of nice revisions to the Welcome, take out the eyesore of a shooting galary, there's a quieter range for archery nearby.

I endorse this idea/feature. I've never seen anyone actualy take people for a tour in that balloon. Plus Hank's are better. :P

And I also heavily Endorse the moving/deleting of the shooting gallery.

Yeah, the shooting gallery should be over where the archery is. Most people don't even KNOW there's an archery range. There needs to be a better path over there.

If someone wants to create an open hot air balloon script, they should go for it. Don't wait for the Lindens to do it for you, create the standard and publish it yourself.

I have an ILS (Instrument Landing System) for docking that can be used by any flying vehicle. Would anyone consider it as a "standard" or basis for creating a standard for communicating docking information to vehicles passing by?

It works by touch on the ILS enabled platform/docking port. Simply drop the script into any prim. When you click the docking prim, any vehicle that you own will receive the docking information from the docking prim, with information on the docking (and hovering/undocking) position and altitude. It's configurable and open source...

ILS Platform Script...
=================
CODE

//ILS Platform Script 1.0.4
//by Hank Ramos
integer channel = 36658425; //This should not be changed, global ILS channel
float travelZ = 0; //0=Auto; If 0, then TravelOffset meters above dock, otherwise absolute altitude.
float dockZ = 0; //0=Auto; If 0, then dockOffset meters above dock, otherwise absolute altitude.
float travelOffset = 10.0; //Offset from top of dock
float dockOffset = 3.0; //Offset from top of dock

default
{
state_entry()
{
}

touch_start(integer total_number)
{
list message;
vector pos = llGetPos();
vector scale = llGetScale();
float topZ;
float dZ;
float tZ;

topZ = pos.z + (scale.z / 2);

dZ = dockZ;
tZ = travelZ;

if (dockZ < 0.001)
dZ = topZ + dockOffset;
if (travelZ < 0.001)
tZ = topZ + travelOffset;

message += llGetObjectName(); //ILS Beacon Name
message += llDetectedName(0); //Touching Avatar Name
message += llToLower(llGetRegionName()); //Region Name
message += pos.x; //Local Position X
message += pos.y; //Local Position Y
message += dZ; //Docking Altitude
message += tZ; //Travel Altitude

llShout(channel, llList2CSV(message));
}
}

ILS Receiver (In Vehicle)
Only listens to ILS messages that were
initiated by the owner of the vehicle!
===================
CODE

//ILS Receiver Script 1.0.4
//by Hank Ramos
integer channel = 36658425;

default
{
state_entry()
{
llListen(channel, "", NULL_KEY, "");
}
on_rez(integer startup_param)
{
llResetScript();
}

listen(integer channel, string name, key id, string message)
{
list packet;
list navinfo;
string owner;

packet = llCSV2List(message);
owner = llKey2Name(llGetOwner());

if (owner == llList2String(packet, 1))
{
navinfo += llList2String(packet, 0); //ILS Beacon Name
navinfo += llToLower(llList2String(packet, 2)); //Sim Name
navinfo += llList2Float(packet, 3); //Destination X
navinfo += llList2Float(packet, 4); //Destination Y
navinfo += llList2Float(packet, 5); //Docking Altitude
navinfo += llList2Float(packet, 6); //Travel Altitude

llMessageLinked(llGetLinkNumber(), 210, llList2CSV(navinfo), NULL_KEY);
}

}
}

But then where would I launch my protest banners from? Since the welcome teleporter is no-build, the shooting gallery makes a good spot to launch banners to circle the welcome area crowds.

I support moving the shooting gallery next to the archery range and having it point south. That way most of the projectiles wind up in Morris or Oak Grove.

At least use the local audio function of 1.4 to restrict the sounds of the bullets to the shooting gallery parcel. I think that the Welcome Area is overdue for a redesign.

Umm, why are the Lindens responding quickly to a hijack of my gdf thread, and ignoring the original request? :mad:

Hank I guess its because the shooting gallery allows and in a way promotes greifing on the welcome area, its more of a risk and should be dealt with ASAP.

Whereas with the balloon I guess they are reluctant to remove it because they hope they can actualy make it work or something.

*shrug*

Or maybe because there have been several complaints about it in-world and on the forums, and it's a coincidence that the thread hijack and relocation happened at the same time.

The Linden balloon has been repaired. It's great if other people bring their balloons by and offer tours as well.
