First of all, kudos to Linden lab for the new features of 1.12. The new group setup rocks (or at least, will rock once we have ability to send the new Notifications function to specific Roles within a group-- kind of essential). :D Also love the fix to the snapshot system-- that really does rock. Lots of good stuff folks-- my favorite update in months. Expanded group functions have been long desired. I know there's still some bugs and issues, but have no doubt those will be ironed out as feedback pours in.

Now, another item that has long been very badly needed: Expansion of Object Modify Parameters.

Currently, an object can be listed MOD/NOMOD, TRANS/NOTRANS. Period.

This makes marketing of some items very difficult. A particular example is TEXTURES. A texture can be marketed two ways: Full perm (which immediately removes it from the property of the texture seller and turns it public domain-- 'cause yeah, like people are going to really honor the request to not give the texture away). Or the texture can be marketed with NOMOD/NOTRANS, which makes it great if you're just building for yourself, but makes it impossible for a builder to build and market an item using that texture.

Another example is a piece of furniture in which the builder used a very special shape he discovered and does not want it torn apart and analyzed...but would like his customers to be able to modify in texture and size. Currently.. that is not possible.

What is needed is a 4-part modify option and a 2-part transfer option:

O Full Modify
O Modify Size
O Modify Texture
O Modify Size and Texture

A 2-part Transfer option is needed (for textures especially):

O Allow Transfer
O Allow Texture transfer if part of object

Of course, if nothing checked, there is no mod or trans.

What the second option does is allow a texture to be transferred if and only if it is decorating an object. This would allow a builder to buy a limited-transfer texture from a texture vendor. That texture may be copied and used by the builder to build for other people... and that build then transferred to the buyer... without giving away the texture itself to the public in general.

Such a concept would be a real asset to texture merchants and would probably greatly increase the texture industry on Second Life (I know I once considered assembling and selling textures on SL... but realized it simply was not a viable concept. Either I'd have to limit them-- which upsets builders-- or they'd become public domain the moment I sold the first one).

So, these things would be a great boon to builders and merchants everywhere. Please Linden Lab, since you're on a roll here... consider adding these permission expansions. :)

And again, thanks for the beneficial features in 1.12.
