I was looking in search and noticed that there were not many of my Jacobs family left. Seems that most have been cancelled and forgotten long ago. Would it be possible to bring back old last names until the "limit" of last names is refilled again?

Would give those who cancelled accounts, the opportunity to bring back their name.
Or maybe those who would like the chance to have the last name of their partner...

Would this be do-able?

I believe the inactive accounts aren't totally deleted, though their inventory and such is. A stub still exists, somewhere in the asset server with their name. Go to YadNi's and start looking for the profiles of some of the creators of the oldest stuff. You'll be unable to find them in Search, but their profile can still be brought up through the edit dialog.

The name is still taken, just not searchable anymore.

Kristian is correct, accounts rarely are deleted (you have to request account deletion), otherwise they stick around forever.

LL once reopened a last name. But that was back in '04 for a name from the dawn of time; the name has since been closed.
