Chatting with others is one of the most important aspects of second life, but not the only one. The SL is a great 3D - designing or a scripting enviroment also. So I think it would be nice to have a OFFLINE version, where you could test/build/script.
Now you are ofcourse wondering, "Stupid idea, I can build things online and it is more fun". Well, there are few reasons for this stupid idea ... A) Lagging B) People harrashing you, when building C) People inserting their own small objects inside the thing you are buildingm just to make it hard to link the object together D) If you do not have network, but still want to build something for later use. E) You want to test weapons/test outfits/scripts and other stuff that might be harmful/lagging to other people
So I think they should add a offline version and made it possible to transfer items from computer to computer.
(Hmph, well have not really checked if i could somehow be offline and designing, so if this is already possible, forgive me)

That is actually a nice idea in my opinion. Maybe not a WHOLE offline version of SL, but I think it would be interesting if we had an area available to us either online or offline. Construction, editing appearance and other things would be a lot easier without the lag and other people bothering us.

From: Kyrah Abattoir would you pay monthly to use an offline version? Most people don't pay monthly NOW, so...

I have limited internet for part of the day, so I would, in fact, pay for an offline service where I could build stuff, then pay to upload it.
I think, if it were offered as a service with an additional fee for paying members, people would pay for it.

While thats a good idea it seems that all your "stuff" is stored on the grid rather then your pc, you would have to upload objects. Any way I'm not a tech person but I did have a suggestion. I build 600m up lag free even in the laggy sim I live in as far as being bugged by people I have a very pleasent busy message. It would be a nice option though if they could pull it off.

I would also like to see some sort of offline building tool. As it is right now, if we could build offline we would pay to import the object, so we're already paying for anything that gets built offline. The ability to do this would be nice, I would even pay more than $10L to import an object. This way I can build anything that will take time or in detail and import it, while making everything else online free of uploading charges. I'd probably pay upwards of $300L to import a 3D object built offline.
I think the quality of objects imported would increase if members could build offline and to anyone worried about scaling issues, the object could always be re-scaled once imported. This could also be something that only subscribed members have access to? Keeping the free members in the sandboxes and allowing users who are taking their projects more seriously to build more detailed and better quality objects... I think this would also improve the overall look of SL as well if it was possible to do this.
Thanks for listening, Tim
