A proposal feature everyone can agree would be great =)

I propose a name change vendor in SL. I say that you should be able to change your name when you feel like it but it should cost will also give LindenX more capital. 1000L to change your name is reasonable, but as soon as you do to prevent abuse, you shouldnt be able to revert to your previous name, in other words it should be taken as if someone had it previously and they did. This feature will really work well for people getting married as they would then have a means of changing their last names to suit the other one, just as in rw. This is a feature that both is beneficial for the player, and beneficial for lindenX as they will gain more L to sell.

A previous name should still belong to the original person. It's just 'unavailable' as a name choice for anyone else. But if they want to revert to the old name, they should be able to pay the fee and go back.

I do like the idea of a kiosk or vendor where you can apply for and get a name change. Maybe it could be on Governor Linden's land? There should probably be a 24 hour or 72 hour waiting period, however, to allow LL staff to check the name for acceptability.

perhaps not being able to revert to the oldl name might slow down the three day marraiges and cause folks to think about what they are doing. Marraige should be respected, even if it is a "game".

Also, I think that old and new name should be forever linked. I dont know about going back... but I do know that I would not want folks to be able to change their name to avoid their past.

I had inquired to linden labs about name change back in July of 05 when I was sadly told that it wasnt possible and had to recreate my avi instead. What a Pain in the *Bleep*!! Transfering inventory and repurchasing items non transferable. NOT FUN!

I also agree with the NO REVERT. Im a wedding coordinater in game and I agree with the consept of those who need to start taking game marriages more seriously even if its a game. The lil bit of money charged for partnership is nothing but a Tuesday Stipen for most if not all. Besides, most ppl in the RW keep there married name after divorse anyway right?

This has been discussed in other threads and LL had a meeting recently on this topic.

There are a couple reasons why you may want to change your user name.
A) You don't like it.
B) You don't like your stalker(s).
C) Marrage
D) Divorce
E) Some combination of the above.

Keeping people from reverting thier name seems arbitrary.

Users with changed names should show up in search under old names. There should be an option (which you would have to pay L$ for) that would not show the new name but would allow the user searching to request permission from the user to get the new name. This way you could escape your stalker but still keep in contact with people you want to (as long as they don't overlap).
