I understand that private estates are supposed to be islands, surrounded by water. Even if we build right up to the edge of our estate, there is still "water" in the distance. Even if we set our "water height" to 0, the water level in the distance doesnt change. We sre still surrounded by water. How about an option for estate owners to change that? Maybe a "disable water in the distance" option or an ability to customize the "distant water" to some other texture. Imagine my estate is supposed to be a jungle or a mountainous region. Water at the edge of the estate looks silly. Thanks for reading.

That would go along with the "set the skybox/sun/moon/..." request? Specify a "void water texture".

That would probably go along with custom skyboxes. Wouldnt that rock?

I like this idea. Not all private estates shouldn't look like islands even if they are (what about those remote regions deep in the mountains?

cyberspace

What if you wanted to make your private estate into a "cyberspace" looking zone, with whizzing geometric shapes and floating strings of green data? Water would look pretty silly in the distance.
Yeah, I guess you could enclose the whole region in a box. But why should you have to? It would be great to have the freedom to really tailor a region to look the way you wanted.

How about this?
For a rectangular group of sims, join the north and south sides and east and west sides of the sim. The land tools, travel, everything else would treat it like a regular sim crossing. This would map the region onto a hypertorus... travel in any direction and you'll find yourself back where you started.
That way there's no problem with the sim borders... there aren't any. The physics and geometry is easy, too, because mapping to a hypertorus doesn't induce any curvature of the volume.

You're an arcade game player from way back, aintcha, Argent! Thats old skool 2d arcade thinkin!

Wow. That's one of most interesting suggestion i've ever seen! I still fear the problem/difficulty about sim loop-back though o.O you know...such implementation could easily lead to infinity loop...

I've got a twisty topological mind.
It's pretty fractal too...
There absolutely won't be any loping for estates of 4 sims or larger.
A single sim or two sims would have to be carefully tested.
If it worked right it would let something like the dAlliez Islands become compacted, with each island sim looped back on itself.
