I've been putting much thought into how second life could be enhanced as a gaming community and with the ability to create custom animations we have taken a huge leap forward. How i suggest we further this is by giving us the ability to place graphics or dialogues in a "players" interface. What i mean by this is the ability to upload an image, and script an object to take an avatars "interface" permissions so we could add things to their 2d view like life gauges (i know this already exists) bullet counts and things like this.
The ability to add graphics like this to someones display gives script writers the ability to make first person shooters, etc and to make them look very professional.
It would give the ability to even make quake-like menu interfaces, like the old: -New Game -Options -Quit sort of thing and could increase the possibilities of our SL creative process by adding another dimension to the game.

Yes this would be nice to have. The ability to control and create GUI effects via LSL would be nifty.

Tiger Crossing made a on-screen interface for the game Deus Via. It used 20 prims posistioned in the air, so that the camera saw them as the whole screen.

i guess a prim based interface would work for a puzzle game, but with the ability to control the actual 2d interface would be much more usable, im talking about the use of it in FPS games or even sports games, now we have custom animations we can start thinking about making games like tony hawks pro skater from the playstation platform. Now making a prim based interface for these games would be impossible, it would have to move with the players camera not to mention the lag it would produce.
If we could project our own graphics to a players interface, there are endless possibilities. Gaming arcades? We could make pac-man clones, or tetris =)

I think you could already make a working pac-man or tetris, just by having the person who "sits" and controls the game like a vehicle, and a camera offset right above the "screen"... But, BUMP! I want to be able to make HUDs, menus... Real games. I can't even take control of the right mouse click button, which appears to be useless in mouselook to me.

They're actually working on it, from what we've been told. Fully XMLed, modifiable GUIs are an upcoming feature.
