New prim type - Morphing Terrain Prim

I would like to see an additional type of prim, to consist of a planar surface, no more than 10M x 10M in size, which can be morphed using the terrain terraforming tools, but which otherwise acts like a prim. It would be useful if there was also some way to select an area of actual terrain, and duplicate that surface using the terrain prim.

Imagine being able to cover a hole in the terrain with a terrain-shaped and terrain-textured prim. You could make realistic caves, cover that basement that extends under your back lawn with something other than a flat prim grass lawn, disguise other excavations, make natural surfaces for cave walls and floors... It would also be useful in creating more 'organic' surfaces for the outer skins of vehicles and the like.

The SL engine already knows how to select a plot of land and terraform it. How difficult can it be to apply that same method to a planar prim?

Yeah, I know. It's probably really hard. But it would be really useful, too!

While my guess is that this would be possible, unless some form of 'LOD' was implemented into the collision hull of the prim, physical terrain peices would be extremely laggy. That probably would rule out using it on vehicles.

Otherwise, nice suggestion.
