Ok. I vaguely recall seeing a thread from ages past where LL and scripters both discussed the need/desire to limit llSetPos() to 10m increments. It was called (I believe) damped movement.

If I create an object that llSetPos()es somewhere, I see that object move swiftly (but actually MOVE) between the two points. It visibly slides along a straight line between the two points.

However, if I right click the object, have it in edit mode, and THEN it llSetPos()es, the object seems to "teleport" on my screen (and I think on my screen only).

Now, with recent forum posts, people have been asking about the possibility of sliding doors and such, and I thought it'd be a good idea if we could customize the speed with which objects seem llSetPos().

Please note, this will be a client side ONLY effect. (Mostly.)

What I propose is creating a llSetPosSpeed() function. With it, you can choose to either slow the "sliding" effect down, or speed it up and/or change it into that "teleport" effect.

The slower sliding would allow users to create sliding doors without using Physical objects, and the "teleport" effect is bound to have interesting uses in various game related areas.

I support this. It definitely would help in game manufacturing.

I was lamenting the single-speededness of this just today.

llSetPos, llSetRot and llSetLocalRot all would be vastly improved by this. Especially if it worked on a prim in a linked set. :D

Id like it too and have wanted it a long time. Working like MoveTo does. And something both of them could use is the ability to set some kind of mode.

Like Linear(constant speed, no speed up or speed down), instant start and slow stop, slow start to instant stop, ect. we could make non-physical vehicles and objects that way. (at the very least a true/false for current style and linear movement).

This would be a huge benefit for sooo many things, I think.
No more jerky doors, for one.
Non-physical vehicle type projects would be a whole lot nicer looking, too.

I would love the idea of being able to rotate a prim or group of prims inside a linked set.

add them up and we have

2The 2difference 2between 2me 2and 2you = 0

2(The difference between me and you) = 0

The difference between me and you = 0/2

The difference between me and you = 0

I never thought we were so similar

You are aiming too low. I'm shooting for spline-based path movement!
