Especially for those of us who thought we'd get by with a one-time $9.95 account and then got hooked and took the $9.95/month plan... I bought a teensy piece of land with my original "allowance" and then suddenly had a much better chance at getting a good piece of "newbie land" when I became a full member, but I was locked out of doing so. So now I'm stuck hanging around cliffsides and what-not.

Yeah yeah, like in life you learn some lessons the hard way, but it seems to me like a bit more in-depth info on land-buying could be part of the tutorials or there could be more warnings like "Once you've bought a piece of land you no longer qualify for Linden Government Aid" or something!

Land for the Landless info should be automatic for the ones that convert to premium account. Something like, "Welcome to SL! You are entitled to 512m of land on your premium account. Lindens can find you a plot this size for L$512m or you can shop land for sale..."

And Frank, hang in there. A lot of landless plots are just starter plots anyway, many move on after they get some savings built up and find a place of their choosing.
