Lock Texture permission
A problem many people have who sell clothes (and other items) is that they want them to be modifyable - the length of the sleeves, the tightness, etc. If you make them OK to Modify and No Copy/No Transfer, the textures can be easily ripped from the items and resold. Many clothing retailers have chosen to make them No Modify, which angers the customers, but is a necessary evil at this point.

How about for all objects / clothing, giving another checkbox, "Lock Texture". If lock texture is clicked, the clothing item could still be modified with SL's sliders for length, tightness, etc.

However, the user would NOT be able to change OR VIEW the texture on the item.

EDITED: Inproper use of the pluperfect tense & a one character typo.

Considering NO texture in SL is currently safe from very easily being grabbed from the air and applied to whatver you like via a known and reported loophole, and considering LL is very aware of the issue and has been, I don't think a fix is very easy or soon to come for locking textures.

It may not be, but sometimes even easy fixes take time due to resources. I've been amazed at how many improvements have constantly been made to SL - hats off to the product and development teams! Sometimes when you're working on something big, like custom animations, that help put your product into a place where you can out-market your competitors, the smaller things fall through the cracks. This feels like one of those situations to me.

Can't you right-click the texture in the Contents folder of an object and set it's permissions? no-modify is all you would need, and this would keep the no-copy problem from occurring, and people will be able to edit length, tint, fit etc. Also set the window a texture comes up in to say "You aren't allowed to view this texture", a la the script no-modify permissions (gray script window with "you aren't allowed to edit view this script";).

No, that checkbox is merely a security blanket. The truth is, textures in SL for those who know, are completely vulnerable to theft. Lindens need to take measures to close down certain loopholes.

Yep, I really want to see them address this problem soon. I had to stop selling modifiable versions of my skins when it came to my attention that people were stealing the textures from them. My clothing is still all modifiable though.

One easy fix would be to have the preview of the texture watermarked in such a way that it's easy to see what the texture is but would require the would be thief to do a substantial amount of photoshop work to make it usable.
