This page should really, really be available as XML. I know that argument was pitched back when it first came out, but with GOM gone and the Second Life Hacks book in the works, making that data available as a webservice can only help. I'd love to write a little hack about how to calculate exchange rates for the book, but I absoluetly refuse two waste space with screen scraping code.

Come on, Linden Lab, this is for your benefit, and it's not a hard thing to do either.

Edit: Here's an XML format you could use:

CODE

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!-- DTD Schema -->
<!DOCTYPE dailylindex [

<!ELEMENT dailylindex (item)>
<!ELEMENT item (dollar|linden|volume)?>
<!ELEMENT dollar (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT linden (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT volume (#PCDATA)>

<!ATTLIST dailylindex date CDATA #REQUIRED>
<!ATTLIST item name CDATA #REQUIRED>
<!ATTLIST item change CDATA #IMPLIED>

]>

<!-- Actual XML data -->
<dailylindex date="20060126">
<item name="Best buying rate">
<linden>281</linden>
<dollar>1.00</dollar>
</item>
<item name="Last trade">
<linden>281</linden>
<dollar>1.00</dollar>
</item>
<item name="Last close">
<linden>280</linden>
<dollar>1.00</dollar>
</item>
<item name="Change" change="+">
<linden>1</linden>
<dollar>1.00</dollar>
</item>
<item name="Today&s volume">
<volume>2,110,025</volume>
</item>
<item name="Today&s open">
<linden>281</linden>
<dollar>1.00</dollar>
</item>
<item name="Today&s high">
<linden>300</linden>
<dollar>1.00</dollar>
</item>
<item name="Today&s low">
<linden>280</linden>
<dollar>1.00</dollar>
</item>
<item name="Today&s average">
<linden>280.50</linden>
<dollar>1.00</dollar>
</item>
</dailylindex>

I would, but I worry that the gravitational pull from the asset server's mass would prevent it from getting there.

What specifically can you do with this data if it were provided in XML format? Would an hourly RSS of anonymous transactions work just as well?
