It would be extremely nice if there was a way to integrate the bundled firefox application's bookmarks into Secondlife as a Bookmark menu in Secondife.

My Ideas: ^_^
  1. Add a Bookmarks Menu
    1. Clicking on a link would open a firefox window in SL for that page.
      1. Option to open links in a new window outside of sl, new window in sl, and new tab in current window

    2. Clicking on a link that is a SLURL would trigger a potentially different action
      1. Option to open SLURLs as pages, show SLURLs locations on maps, or teleport directly to the SLURL location.

    3. Add Manage Bookmarks to the Bookmarks menu to open up the firefox bookmark editor.
    4. Make Live Bookmarks available.
      1. Users could produce lists of locations in SL by theme and share them with other users dynamically. This would allow for lists of all Liden locations, Popular Furry locations, Religious Sites, Art sites, ecetera to be shared between users and help people find "the good stuff" on SL. Or even maintain a link list of free web applications as the supposed "GoogleOS" takes shape. SL is like a shared OS virtual landscape in an embronic phase. (Go little star child, go!... Just not to Europa.)
      2. A website could offer a live bookmark with a link to thier page as well as a dynamically updated list of places maintained in SL.
      3. There is no need to rely on outdated landmarks that lead to old sites if the new location can be updated dynamically. This is important because the landscape of SL is constantly changing.

    5. Add a chat/message logger that holds the last x urls mentioned or loaded via script to a URL Grabber (Like Trillian's) folder in bookmarks.
      1. Add option to turn this feature off
      2. Add option to change the number of saved url in the url grabber cache.

  2. Add "Add to Bookmarks" option for landmarks in inventory.
  3. Add "Add to Bookmarks" option for open landmarks.
  4. Optionally use the bookmarks of a previous installtion of firefox.

I wanted to try to hack this into SL and sell it al la the "God Mode Hack", but I just don't have the programing expertise or knowledge of SL settings. ^_^;;; I did find some nifty capes while I was mucking about though. ^_^ I like the leopard print one.

Interesting proposal, except for one thing. Unless SL includes a fully-featured browser inside the client, all of those external calls would have to go to the system default browser rather than being Firefox-specific. Otherwise, there'd be a good many users who couldn't use this collection of new features.

And, the current minibrowser in SL isn't specifically Firefox, but an in-house creation based on the Mozilla engine. The only real similarities are in the page rendering code.

Aw, rats. I thought the mini-browser was just another (full) installation of firefox. 'Cuz I keep hearing "firefox intergration," I guess. I suppose this idea would have to wait until SL reaches the "Plug-in" phase in the far future so only users that could use it, um, could use it. Bah. Oh well.

It would makes sense if there was a full-ish install of firefox just sitting there, but if they have to re-code everthing, it probably isn't worth it. :/
