Maybe, perhaps, that either the next major point release (1.5) or the one after (1.6) could be set aside simply to fix the mounting bugs that are crawling out of the woodwork, and basically make the client more stable?
There are a SLEW of bugs that absolutely must be fixed before the lindens put more neat stuff on the pile.
Just a thought.

Yes and no. I get your point and it's a good one. We have things that have been problems forever that NEED to be fixed. But if we don't have new ideas and new features to look forward to, I think some of the fun and optimisim will be lost. I personally love finding out that a new "point release" test grid is online and going to test all the cool new toys there. If after a 2 or 3 month wait LL announces a test grid of 1.7 that "has all the bugs fixed" I can't really muster any excitement for going there and playing with it.

Hell, I would. I'd be testing the various RPC implementations.
RPC will be usable, if it ever reaches the point where it's reliable. (And for reference, I'm referring to email-RPC and XML-RPC, both inbound and outbound.)

To paraphrase some character from some film where some ship (space or nautical) was in very bad disrepair: "how about you just tell me what does work as it is supposed to, instead?".

Well, right, but if all the new features are broken/buggy/crashy, then what's the point? I'd rather have 2 features working 100% than 20 features working 10%. LF

Hear hear! I would much prefer a half dozen releases focused on fixing current issues, than a release that only snowballs the issues currently at hand. Big change is in the small details, lets focus on the pennies, and leave the pounds alone. "A successful harvest is one that is free of weeds" Lindens, let us reap a bountiful harvest from the great and wonderful seeds you have already sown. THEN plant a new field, we will deal with those weeds later

I get your train of thought LF but I have to say that I disagree. Should they take out custom animations and streaming music til they get some of the other bugs worked out? No? I rest my case

If taking out anims and streaming would decrease bugginess then yes. If we could roll back time and divert the folk working on custom anims and streaming then yes. But I don't think any of those bear on the proposition today. Q.E.D.
Nor do I think that LL is going to say "yeah we do need to reduce bugs at the cost of whiz-bang features" so this is mostly wasted bytes.
