I have an idea for some software which would help us with our inventory.
Yes it's possible that I'm not the first to suggest this, it certainly wouldn't
surprise me.
The think is that the inventory as it stands is very clumsy and difficult to
handle.
I propose a program which exists *outside* of SL and operates on windows
and mac... "IVM"
You would disconnect from SL, run Inventory Master [IVM] and log in as
usual... it would connect for a matter of seconds and then when it has the
contents of your inventory, it disconnects....
Now... here's the thing... it *doesn't* download any actual program, what
it does is find out what is in the inventory and make icons for each item
in the same folder as it would be in your inventory.
Now, everything is drag and drop, just like what you'd see in windows which
makes it a lot easier and faster to manage, plus it takes Idle users off the
grid as they sort themselves out.
The program would also automatically find files which were the same...
we all have a problem where we have multiples in our inventory.
Anything we don't want is binned [trashed].
Once the inventory is sorted out, you would reconnect via IVM and SL would read
what you have changed and re-configure the online inventory.
All binned files go into SLs "trash" so nothing is deleted until the user is totally
happy.
I'm sure this would work, I'm dead certain it would make a lot easier for everyone
and I'm positive the idea could be built on.
The product would look something like "thumbsplus" when running or
"directory opus", your basic file manager utility.
Wolfie!
