it would be great if we could get either new functions or changes to the regular sound functions to let us send a sound to just one person. like a sound IM.

Can't you just do this by handing them the sound "file?" Or are you concerned about the key and time played?

not sure what the last part of what you said means. actually reading mine i might not have been clear. i mean i want to be able to play a sound that only a specific person can hear. like an attachment that plays sounds only the wearer hears. like if you think of a regular sound as llSay() i want llInstantMessage() for sound.

I mean why not just hand them a sound "file?" As for the concerns:

1) Are you concerned the person would take the UUID "key" of the file to use it elsewhere?
2) Or do you just want it to play to that person "on demand" instead of have them open it?

If I'm reading Zuzi right - I think she means "on demand".

Sound effects, and the ability to control them is a big issue for me. I've been asking for some time for better land tools to restrict things like "sound" from being played - because too much of it can become obnoxious.

If Zuzi was able to discreetly "play" her sound to be heard by only the intended target, instead of the whole room - it would make sound effects much more friendly & less annoying :)

Just "giving" a sound to a person, and asking them to "play" it - takes away some of the humor & social spontanaiety that some folks use sound effects for.

Hope I'm reading you right, Zuzi :)

at this point you got me so confused i don't even know what i'm talking about anymore. :D

let me try this again. i'm not really thinking about security or people stealing sounds or anything. the deal is right now if an object plays a sound everybody around it can hear it. i want to be able to have it play a sound only for the person who touched it, or just for the owner of the object, or for somebody it finds with a sensor or whatever. it would be like the "play locally" button on a sound in your inventory only it would be an lsl function in a script in the object.

so i guess that's what you guys mean by "on demand". i want to be able to have an attachment or object playing sounds like crazy and only the person they're meant for can hear them.
