I was checking out some animation online today and got to thinking..
How cool would it be to make stop motion animation inworld?
Then I immediately realized how difficult it would be since the camera won't stay in one place.
I imagine my idea wouldnt be easy to implement, but here it is anyway. I propose adding the ability to "detach" the camera from the avatar and "place" it in an object or fixed location. This way, no matter how you as your avatar move about and adjust items your camera stays put.
I imagine this would also be helpful for use with filming videos or trying to get multiple views of a an action (ala The Matrix & Kill Bill).
Thoughts?

Ah, I thought you were going to mean something else, but yes I really like this idea. It would also be cool for things like remote control cars etc.
However privacy does come into issue, how would others tell where your camera is? How would it be kept out of houses etc?

You can use alt-click to look around people's houses from the outside. Cameras are no-clipped as far as I can tell.
I think what he wants is a way to set the X,Y,Z focus of the camera, it's N distance, it's R rotation, and lock it from the user - possibly with a bookmark feature.

From: someone However privacy does come into issue, how would others tell where your camera is? How would it be kept out of houses etc? Excellent point and as stated, already an issue. I am not proposing the ability to make a camera and leave it somewhere. That being said, I guess limiting the placement to a specific radius from your avatar would be wise. A workable distance but not so far as to cause issue. Either way, Im sure someone would find a way

You know, I REALLY wish there was a way that you could exclude cameras from places unles sthey were directly attached to an AV.

I think this is a great idea. I would want to click on a object and have that be my point of view then I could drag the "head" where ever that I want it to be.
as far as the limiting the radious you can look. I love the full control of the pov It adds to the whole freadom effect of SL.
