Proposal 1538: LSL commands to turn parcel no-script / no build

Related to the latest griefing problems, I am suggesting two new LSL commands that will enable land owners to turn on no-script and no-build via script.

This will open for security systems that more efficiently can stop griefers from being able to use weapons even if the owner is not present. I believe this will also reduce load on liaisons.

Place your votes on proposal 1538 if you agree.

I'm missing something here. Presumably you'd have to be the land owner to be able to use the script, so how would this help if the owner isn't there? Is the idea that you want anyone to be able to set the parcel no-script/no-build using the script, but only the owner can unset it? Or would it be a matter of checking the creator of the script against the owner? (But people can still copy scripts out of nomod objects, right?) Was there some other trigger to the script that you had in mind (e.g. presence of an unverified avatar?)

Wouldn't an improvement to group/land permissions get at this better?

I'm not really arguing against the script function, I just don't see how it will solve the problem you described.

i agree this would be very nice, we need more script accessible functions related to land configuration

Currently, the owner (or an officer on group owned land) has to be present and use the interface. If it is a script function, the owner can own an object that can give certain people (by group or list) permission to turn it on/off. Much the same way security scripts now can eject or teleport agents away.

Ejecting or teleporting doesn't help if they come back and drop bombs again and again. Using Land ban won't work if they are at the neighbours, shooting in. Limiting their ability to run scripts and replicate prims on your land will. Bullets or bombs shot from a neighbouring parcel will stop dead in their tracks and be subject to auto-return. It is basicly an emergency thing. Whenever I have a determined griefer at my place, the only thing that stops them is to turn off scripts and create. But I can't be present at my property around the clock, even if it is open. Nobody else than me can currently do this, and I think that sucks.

While we're on it, a way to return all non-group items by script would also be nice. That way we won't have to wait the minute it takes to return stuff.

Imagine this :
Grumble Loudon's script (IIRC from this topic) which, through object scans, detects very fast moving scripted objects.... (bullets).

Pair that with this proposal... imagine a device that detects bullets, returns them, and then sets the land no script for, say, 5 minitues.

Wouldn't that be a serious, serious blow to griefers?
They'd only be able to fire a shot or two before all their weapons stopped working, and their name and details were recorded by the device (which, optionally, could probably also ban them from the land)...

this would be a blessing at some places. and i so understand where moonshine is coming from, i've personally had to stand up and take action on greifers risking myself to possible pvp abuse when in fact a script like this would have stop said greifer quickly.
