I would like to request a feature that would allow user to "lock in" a stream instead of going place to place listing to that acursed black eye peas song over and over and then getting to a good song only to find out it only covers a small section...
personally i like the station theat the shelter plays but i dont wanna be stuck there by just the radio...
what this be feasible at all or is it in game, did i miss it? please leeme know...
thanks in advance, Phoenix Bachman

I think the music that people pick for their land says a lot about their personality. I dont always like the music I hear at a particular plot, but I like knowing what the owner has chosen. When I am not in the mood to discover their musical interests, I just disable streaming sound and play my choice on winamp in the background.

Phoenix, IIRC, The Shelter plays 80s music but I don't recall the station. I like 80s music and often times listen to Club977 ( www.club977.com) through their Web site outside SL and turn off in-game music. But, there also times when I want to hear the in-game stream as well. I like your suggetion though if I understand it correctly. There have been times when I have the in-game audio on, I'm flying somewhere, hear a good song, and stop just to listen to it. It would be nice to "lock in" that station so that I can keep listening to it as I fly on. When you go to the Media tab in the land info dialog, the URL for the media is hidden like a password. I'm not sure why although I'm sure there's a good reason for it. I wonder if that reason would prevent this locking streams idea from ever being realized. HP

The hidden URLs are a rather new feature and it was immediately suggested it be optional to hide or give out, and I think you will probably see this happen.
As far as not liking ppl's music, I usually have the option turned off and jsut listen to my own. You wouldn't walk into a RL club and be able to lock in a station you like right?

You can always find a url on a land using debug , it shows the entire url, dont see why they bother hiding it But yes its annoying to fly around and music suddenly start and sometimes its REALLY loud , options options, something SL seem to hate, on/off when you want it to, not the second you pass a land parcel and boom something else start.

This has been possible since SL Day One. It's how I listen to music while in SL. Simply load up your iTunes, and paste your favorite stream as the URL. Then, disable music streaming in your SL preferences. Now, you're in total control and no more channel surfing when you fly over so many parcels.

Personally I dont use iTunes (cause its the devil) but i understand what you mean now by loading a stream up in your perfered media player (like winamp) and roll with it... i seemed to have overlooked this simple work around... also to the person refering to RL about walking into a club with your own tunes... its called a CD player... but i digress... thanks for all your lovely input

I don't want people coming on my land and not being able to hear my stream because someone's listening to it who isn't even there

I like your idea, Phoenix. Using a separate player, like the Winamp that I use, does not accomplish the same goal as your suggestion, it would be minimal programming effort and a fair number of the people who say they don't like it would use the option if it were available.
I'd also like to see each of us have a field in our profiles for a music url that other's could click on and play using the SL stream playing system. It would be fun, but people say "just use an external player and ask people for an url and put in there."

I don't want people coming on my land and not being able to hear my stream because someone's listening to it who isn't even there Well there is a possible work around for that too... simply add more bandwidth or have a simple locking stream service... say 10L an hour to listen in and lock the stream and therefore if you have a popular station then you could get say 60 people on this connection then your generating 600L an hour... not a bad racket if i may say so... and for the URL name of the stream in a persons profile would be kinda cool... if like an in game hover text script could be used to display the URL you are listening to... but make it an option of course... cause some of us like to hang out certain places and having everyones title and url hanging there would prosuce some serious graphic lag... maybe even a simple hover text script for the jutebox (perferably in the shelter) to list what song is currently playing... there has many times where i go that was a cool song but what was the title? just my 1L

Let me get this straight, have I seen suggestion to have the ability to connect to a music client already installed on your computer from SL? umm, ok, I listen to my winamp when i SL by simply opening winamp, chosing my listening source and pressing play....
no reason fro LL to have to divert from many more serious matters to get Sl to opne a program for you.
