Here are some feature ideas that ive been churning over but havent had the time to put together until more recently: http://www.ezequal.com/secondlife/There are alot of otherthings that i would like to address but I'm mainly looking for comments from my peers ON THESE IDEAS right now And mabey, if its possible, the input from soem Lindes and/or other LL staff Thanks! (PS: Sorry its kinda lengthy)

Hahahah nice, you actually edited the GUI for the objects - summarizing: - "windows explorer" feel to the inventory (yes, please) - tree-based objects (we've been begging for this) - origin offset for objects (for holes, grabbing - not sure how possible it is to edit the engine but also something we've asked for)
These are really cool what you've mocked up - should be in Feature Suggestion section of the forum to really be seen, though.

I didnt knwo how much all this was discussed but I figured that this made it easy to see what I wanted/was going for. (Lindens can move this to Suggestions section if they feel it apropreate, I just figued it would get the most exposure here.) So please, more comments

From: Ezequal Torgeson I just figued it would get the most exposure here.) So please, more comments Believe it or not, it'd get more exposure in the Feature Suggestion forum - a lot of people surf there, and generally feature suggestions get buried very quickly in the General Forum.

FWIW OSMP offers: - "windows explorer" feel to the inventory. The inventory is local, just cached on the server when you rez, so you can use Windows Explorer, CVS, or well... anything - origin offset for objects. I think OSMP offers this currently, though I'm actually trying to limit the extent to which you can do this. - tree-based objects. OSMP offers hierarchically linked objects, including hierarchical rotations, and smooth client-side rotation/offset interpolation OSMP is: http://metaverse.sourceforge.netand was also referenced in Wired yesterday! http://wired.com/news/games/0,2101,65865,00.htmlAzelda

Like most Open Source projects, OSMP is well-intentioned. Unfortunately, it is like most other OS projects in that it is far from ready for public use. After installing the OSMP software, I discovered that I was in a world devoid of content. A stark plain of ungradiated green was all that stood between me and the void. If I were an existentialist philosopher, I might find that situation to be profound. As it is, I quickly grew bored with looking about that barren world, and so I began to think of creating. After reading the documentation, I was able to plop a cube on the ground. It looked spectacular. A matte gray cube on a plane of green, in an endless void. After I'd had my fill of cubes, I moved on to other platonic solids. Eventually, though, my interest waned again, and I began to think of conversation. Though my new cubes buddies were apt listeners, they left a little something to be desired. I felt as if I was doing all of the talking. Realizing that I was talking to a bunch of gray cubes, on a bland green plane, in the middle of an endless void, I then closed the program.
Though the OSMP project tackles a lot of the technical problems that SL currently faces (more robust scripting, better linking, etc) it completely lacks any of the panache which SL has. Unfortunately for the OSMP project, it would be astronomically more difficult to implement the best features of SL than it would be for SL to implement the best features of OSMP, because the best feature of SL is its ease of use and its immense volume of content.

Yeah, it'd be nice to see this incorporated in SL. This is already externally done for SL, btw - Check out this at /8/36/27296/1.html

Azelda I would love to test the OSMP, but sadly the interface is incredibly hard to use and understand (of couse, I got over this in a few minutes), and I would apperciate a single sim we could easily connect to.

My intent was more to rally desire form the comunity to push this topic, not OSMP (no offence). This is the SL forums and idealy we would advance the progress of the SL application.
So, is there any intent to implement this (im asumeing so) and if so when?

I have to agree .. OSMP is cool, but leveraging the marketing and efforts of SL to attract people to your own efforts is a bit in bad form.
Ezequal if you'd like to be a beta tester, for the implementation I referred to above, let me know.

Ardith and Ryen, thank-you for your well thought out posts. I enjoyed reading them and will definitely take them on board. To be honest, our target audience to date is developers who might be interested in coming on board, but you're right: it's time to address content and usability issues and shift our product into the mainstream.
Ezequal, you would really like to see Hierarchical Linking and a Windows Explorer feel to the inventory in SL. You have created a user interface design for them, which shows feasibility at the Look and Feel level, and willing and motivation. The instantiation in OSMP shows technical feasibility for the underlying implementation, and of course the same enthusiasm and motivation to see these features implemented.
With technical feasibility demonstrated, the only thing left to discuss is planning and priority, which is a whole lot easier to do when you dont additionally have to argue that the idea is actually possible *cough* negative prims *cough*.
