I'm not sure why the Avatar spins around every time you enter appearance, but it is somewhat annoying when testing skins/clothing textures - especially when you have the camera positioned the way you like it. Perhaps there could be a way to disable this feature.

Hi! That's an optional thing under preferences.

Actually when I disabled the option the Avatar still rotates - after the preview is over. I really think it would be a good idea if the avatar didn’t move at all and the lighting wasn’t affected during these changes.
Food for thought…

The avatar turns away when i select appearance, with the move camera checkbox unchecked. The camera is shifted slightly to make room for the appearance dialog. It is not at all what I would like, which would be for the camera to not move at all, and for the av to freeze in whatever position it was in when I selected appearance.

Food for thought… The subtle-but-noticeable change in lighting in Appearance is odd, and makes it hard to match up things like a base hair texture shade to prim hair. Is there a good reason why the lighting should change? It gets noticed on occasion by Resis.
