An excessive amount of Linden staff time is spent locating and moving threads that are "in the wrong forum". To simplify things, the separate forums should all be abolished and all the threads merged. The design, texturing, animations, building, etc. forums should be merged with the off topic, general, new products, help wanted, etc. This would completely eliminate any time or effort for users in figuring out what to post where, and free up valuable moderator time. Why stop halfway by merging the groups while leaving the threads intacts?
Instead we should just have the posts all thrown together into one big hodgepodge, just like the chat on channel 0.
The name of the web page with our input can be changed to channel0.secondlife.com.
The text entry field can be made one line, about 30 characters long.
This would have the added benefit of reducing the degree to which the benefits of more orderly, easier normal forum style communicaton compared to the inworld chat mechanism gives rise to a forum based elite with undue power known as the forumati.

 sorry invent some folks actualy use these forums for more then just chatting, There are folks here actualy asking questions and seeking aswers. It would be bad if thier requests for help got lost. Personaly if this were to happen i would stop visiting the forums, i hate the trash that goes on in off topic and general, especial how it spills over into this forum.

Invect's proposal simply put's forth an idea that was being circulated in the general forum in response to the moving of a thread. People were saying that posters should get to post in any forum they want and the moderator should be required to leave them there. People with advertisements in the classifieds forums would find it in their interest to promote their products in every forum. People not familiar with where posts should go would post in the general forum or in several, the off topic posts would fill up the general forum, and lots of posts would go in the Land and Economy and Political Science forums because they are at the top of the lists. My idea carries the concept further by altering the forum operation to work like the text entry in Second Life. If the chat system in Second Life is good, why not bring it's benefits to the forums?
