Log Out Flying, Log In Still Flying

I hate it when I logout and I'm flying, just hovering above the ground, then log back in and I'm crashing into the ground at hurteling speeds. Or when I logout up in the air on an object, and log back in and again I'm falling.

So my suggestion is, when we login and we were flying when we logged out, or, our login positions are not on the ground, put us into fly mode.

I don't see any good reason as to why you would want your avatar to be falling all the time when you log back in and aren't on the ground.

this seems to be arbitrary to the individual client (I did 5 straight log-ins/log outs while flying to test this) I stay flying on log in.

I suggest that we just call for general state preservation across logout/logins, controlled through a selection screen. Then you can tick directly whichever boxes you want and preserve the states that you wish retained.

Personally I want to add altitude and sitting to the preserved state, for example. After going to bed while sitting on my platform up in the sky, it always annoys me to login and find myself standing on the ground below instead.

If creating a selector screen is too much work, an XML config file will do for this too.

Edit: I think that the login screen is the best place for the checkboxes to appear. Not only are there checkboxes for such things there already, but it would also mean that you could click off a previously chosen preserved state if that causes login problems.

Yeah, and it would be especially annoying if you were on your 'private' platform at 800 meters when you logged out, and then when you logged back in and you had forgotten to put clothes on and detatch your platinum genitalia and THEN started hurtling towards the ground, where 4 of your friends are sitting around a chat circle below you!

In that event, I think the appropriate thing to shout would be, "DEATH FROM ABOVE!!!"

Arti

ohh and yes I agree completely about the "state preservation" issue, if that wasn't patently obvious from my post!

I'm afraid I'm pure and unmodified, so there would just be an oily patch on the ground. :)

Do you use a flight assistance script of any kind? Because I've never EVER EVER had this happen to me. If I log off while flying, I'm still flying when I log back on. Sometimes, if I was flying too LOW I end up flying a bit higher (i.e. the default height from the ground when you hit the fly key to start flying) but I NEVER -stop- flying when logging on.

Oddly enough after posting this and logging back in while flying... I was still flying.

So I'm not sure whats up with this because I do know other times I have ended up on the ground while flying.

*shrugs* not sure if it was a fluke or what.

Morgaine has the better suggestion anyway. :P
