Events should have the option of a direct point to point teleport with a small minimum tax of say, 20 L$
That L$ would go to the event holder. They can keep it or return it as a prize.
I think this would really encourage people to hold great events that attract lots of people, it would also allow us all to directly teleport places.

From: blaze Spinnaker I think this would really encourage people to hold great events that attract lots of people, it would also allow us all to directly teleport places. Do you seriously believe this? I think it would encourage more people to hold lousy events and then encourage them even moreso to send random TP offers... What's the point of holding an interesting event if the host is paid just for getting people to TP? There wouldn't be as much incentive to keep event-goers, only to attrct them long enough that they TP.

Well, if people want to spend their money and leave .. That would be their perogative. Presumably if someone was going to an event and it was going to cost money they'd think twice before going: Is this an event I want to go to? Do I believe that the person hosting this event is going to make it wortwhile? As for the "tp offer" .. not sure where that they came from. That would still be free. Right now it's fairly impossible to get people to pay for events. Certain things, like classes, would probably occur much more frequently if people paid for them. If they got something, like a teleport out of the deal, they'd probably be more willing to pay.

Okay, I read the original suggestion as L$20 from LL to the event holder, not L$20 paid by the direct TP event-goer. So it's not as bad a suggestion as I first thought. That's what I get for trying to work and surf at the same time.
Isn't it possible to charge entrance fees for events, or even an entrance fee to access land. I think this is a good way to promote compelling content.... land owners create something everyone wants to be a part of, then charge a fee to access it. Since this has been possible for a long time, I think it's proof that most event-holders aren't concerned with creating compelling content.* Especially when a hollow cube, particles, streaming music, and L$10 giveaways seem to work just the same.
*I am aware that compelling content is relevant to the viewer and that hollow cubes seem very compelling to many SLers.

Events would be gamed even more than they now are.
