I think it'd be nice if we could have a checkbox *AND* and slider for the background of the chat.

This would allow newbies to not get confused, and use the checkbox (which greys out and sets the slider to 0), and allow us who want to customize the transparency of the chat, to do so.

Seems simple enough? Eh?

During preview, the chat background was just a check box, so naturaly, when .8 went public, I suspected the same. I *like* the background, however, I would like to be able to customize it slightly. Which is why I asked for a property in colors.ini that allowed us to do so. I guess LL then decided to do a slider instead, to allow for this ability, this is great! However, I didn't find out about this great feature untill the release notes for .8.3 mentioning it had been taken out. Apparently alot of users complained that they were confused because they don't know how to use sliders (my guess).

So my suggestion is, to have a checkbox, that enables/disables the slider as well as the background, then let the user define with the slider the oppacity of the background. SIMPLE?! Yes. Any monkey could then work and configure it... I think... unless I'm giving people too much credit, which I might be.

All this, over one little slider/checkbox, funny eh?

Would have been nice had the release notes said /ANYTHING/ about the slider in the first place, now I can't leave because when I leave, I'll loose my slider, I can never log out. o.o

Yeah, I used the background when I could have it at about 10%. Now, I can have it at 50% or not at all.

I wonder if LL got similar complaints on the streaming music volume slider. Perhaps it should be "LOUD/UNLOUD".

Better yet, let's get rid of all the sliders in Appearance. Just replace them with "BEEFY/FAT/FAE/LANKY/BUXOM" checkboxes.

But, I guess there were enough complaints to merit this change without allowing an option.

At least, sweeping changes without allowing an option, haven't happened in the past. I mean, thank goodness for that.

I'm pretty new to SecondLife and this whole intarweb thing... I can't seem to get the hang of these checkboxes... Would it be possible to add a slider? I have a lot of experience with them!

Ok, looks like there was actually a technical reason for this - that somehow it was related to the chat color text bug.

How that would happen, I don't know. But we are only on the outside looking in.

After recieving a bug report on this, apparently it was taken out due to the color text bug which made text different colors than they are supposed to be. How those two things would be related, I dunno.

Hopefully they'll be able to reimplement it without bugs soon (in the next release PLEASE).

Just wanted to add this so not all blame is put on the lesser minded.

The slider will return in the next release.

We reverted some changes that broke the chat colors last release until the chat color bugs could be fixed and tested. Unfortunately those changes also included a change from the checkbox to the slider.
