All poses/anims should be allowed to be frozen, and there should be a control to allow the head/neck bone rotations to be overridden/modifiable via the LookAT (ALT+Click) functionality.
That gives a virtual photographer infinite options to adjust the head by having the model look at a prim once the pose it set.
The poses and anims are great in SL! This ability to free the head to Look at objects would go al long way to allowing pose Refinements particularly as it applies to the art of Virtual Photography.

Ahhhhh.. now I know what you're getting at.
Yeah, a huge marketing muscle of LL is the virtual photography that seeps out into the blogosphere.
Tools to improve rendering would go a very long way to buffing that marketing muscle.
A 'ray tracing' feature of some sort would be cool as well. I guess there are a lot of things that could be done. I wonder how easy they would be to add. They're just filters, after all.
Something which further renders the avatar would be a great idea too.
Again, LL, take note - let us add these as developer plugins!

You know if you edit your BVH with a text editor and delete the head and neck joints the animation won't effect the head and neck, allowing for free motion.
Also be sure to remove the right floats from each line at the bottom of the animation. As the number of floats need to match those required.

Have you tried zooming on yourself? I think it resets the head position.
