Can they be made to stay closed all the time except for the one we want to open? If that can happen, there wouldn't be such a desperate need for inventory box organizers just to get all the spam inventory out of sight. Or can a manual lock/unlock feature be added to all directories?

Um...isn't that what it is now? When you close the Inventory window, it tend to close all folders but one you select last.

Inventory directories constantly pop open for no reason I can see, and I spend a LOT of time closing them so I can get to whatever I'm actually working on. |

Thirded (or forthed - whatever). I hate the way folders pop open when you drag over them.
While you're at it, make items you take go into the selected folder, not into some default folder. What's odd is that sometimes they do, but not most of the time.

Also, when you search inventory it opens folders as you type. Un-restrict the list by deleting the search term and the folders are still open. Close close close close close...

Actually, I like it the way it is now. I actually wanted it to be permanently opened when I opened them, and only close when I click the close. And I love that pop-open when I drag as well!
I'm sure there will be much more people whining if that features get removed as well.
So...you see the problem.
