as you can see classified ads via profiles are becoming abused!
Please do something about it.
here are my suggestions:
Title line (name) Can not be spaces or special characters as the first letter. Must have titles. title must be Letter character only. people will start posting 000 HUGE SALE 000 if you allow numbers.
another suggestion is to possible post by date as the default.
as it is right now people are abusing the classifieds forcing others *even I have done it* to use space or charaters to get placed higher.
I'm not doing it anymore. I refuse to follow the lead of others.
Or a simple suggestion if the above can not be implimented is have someone clean up classifieds by hand. there is even people posting mature content (words or images) or sim with no mature selections.
Thanks for your time. ~Kat

They should be sorted by date placed, and then no matter what the title is, it will never ever matter.

People are gaming the system, because the "front page" is the most valuable page to get to. Doesn't matter if you ban spaces, special characters, then people will list "AAAAAA My place" as the name. The only solution is date sort, but that makes a particular place hard to find in the list, and will look totally chaotic, not like a nice classified

A few simple changes would fundamentally change things. I'm in favor of DATE_SORT like Aaron suggests. This is common in paper newspapers, and keeps things fresh. You can always look to the top to browse new things. Doesn't make sense to sort by "Name". I'm not sure of the value of "Price" because numerous listings are for more than one item, like a store selling many goods—it seems sort of inconsistent to have a Price column if a number of things don't have a price. But that can stay for now. Ayuh... Date makes a big difference. My mind is really gravitating towards that.

P.S. Date also makes a big difference for classifieds that are, erm, date-dependent.

yes it is absurd. Do we really need to babysit people this much? While being by date would make things hard to find, there are sections and a search option. Really no matter what you change people are going to abuse it because money is involved.
Also could you add more sections? one large one for shopping might be nice for people who sell many different things, but as an animator I'll be lost in a sea of clothing.

I think what's a smart move is as the Classifieds get used more and more, things can be sorted out more organically. Some weird categories never thought of before may gain YUGE ground. Mebbe someday we'll even get tagging for 'em, which is cheap-'n'-easy.

I think if you sort it by date and category, spliting up the different parts of the classifieds, it wouldn't be confusing at all. of course then your gonna have to deal with people reposting all the time, has anyone thought about it being organized old to new? we wouldn't have reposts and eventually everyone would get their classified answered because its on the front page when it gets old.

Classifieds page should start blank, like people/groups. Anything else just promotes abuse.

Sorting by name makes perfect sense if you're trying to locate a specific store. The Classifieds desperately need more sub-categories! Shopping: Shopping:Clothing Shopping:Clothing:Casual Shopping:Clothing:Formal Shopping:Animations Shopping:Avatars Shopping:Housewares Shopping ervices Entertainment:Clubs Entertainment:Gambling You get the idea... Just like the yellow pages, folks. I can tell you right now that most merchants, especially small ones, are NOT going to use an ad to advertize only a single item for sale. That makes no economic sense. What you'll see happen is an ad for a "Clothing store", with keywords in the description for the types of clothes they sell.

From: KatanaBlade Anubis kudos to Linden Lab for fixing the classifieds ! What was changed? It still looks as abused to me as before, the abuse of spaces has gotten ridiculous. I vote for starting it blanked, less load and removes pretty much all potential for abuse.
