Those poor newbs! Walking around with boxes on their heads and feeling foolish .. could the default attachment point be made to be the right hand rather than head?

Wonder why no one thought to do that in the first place. I still on occasion wind up with a box (or a bag, etc) on my head... but that's only when I'm being extremely lazy

I woud prefer if they left it as the head, because of how entertaining it is. You aren't really an SL'er till you've experienced a box on your head. It's a rite of passage. ![]() _____________________

Lots (most) animated attachments like cups of tea, glasses of beer, rings, watches, gloves etc. use the right hand, so if it was the default attachment point it would cause a lot of problems. Same for rings...What they really need is a "hold object" point that you can set to be the same as any of the existing attachment points, but doesn't actually conflict with the point you select. |

I always wondered why things like that go on the head too. On my first day someone gave me a car in the Welcome Area and I put it on thinking I would end up in the drivers seat. It was a big black car and my whole screen went black and I was like OMG what did this person give me. I didn't know how to move tha camera around or anything then, so I logged off and came back thinking it would go away and was wrong. Someone then told me to click on it to detach. That was scary for awhile lol

I've looked at the config files
haven't found anything to indicate what the default is. so it's probably hard coded somewhere. _____________________

Actually, I like it as it is
as someone said, it's kinda rite of passage by now ![]() I believe nearly every ones have experienced a box on their head at least once ![]() It did make you learn many things too, like how the attachment work ![]() _____________________

I agree that the default attachment point could do with being somewhere a bit less contentious - having to go looking for your prim hair in a messy inventory everytime you buy something is no fun!
![]() In the meantime how about doing what I do? When you create a box for something that's to be sold you attach it and position it in the right hand - and add a script that detects that it's been attached and asks the customer to detach the item by right-clicking on it and selecting Detach, then rez it on the floor and right-click Open to access the product - makes the customers a lot happier ![]() |

But it is nice that it's immediately evident that it something didn't go where you expected it to go. Some small or transparent objects (like HUDs) might be more tricky to notice that if they attached to the hand for example.

I've found it quite amusing to watch left arms swirl and spin around when building, dots coming out in a tizzy, as is natural to the avatars of Second Life.

Talking about script...what bother me most is an item box with no script. When I was still newbie I once paid multiple time to a vendor and get confused why it give me only a box. (luckily it's just freebie vendor 1L each) What I'd like to see most is that every vender put at least a script that make the box say "I'm in This Box!" or somethings, to prevent newbies from paying multiple times out of confusion.
