I'd like to see updates occur less frequently. Perhaps monthly instead of weekly. To be honest, most of the updates don't include anything that I care about, and reduce the amount of time that is available to customers to play that game.
If this is not possible for whatever reason, I'd like to see the updates occur at a time more like midnight instead of in the middle of the day. In most professional IT operations, you do major updates (those that require downtime of whatever system you are updating) overnight to minimize the impact to your customers (which are usually your employees who are not paying to be there). Given that SL is supported by its users, I would think that even greater consideration of this should be taken. Of course since SL is open 24/7, there will be people inconvenienced no matter when you do this, but I know that I see less users on after midnight SL time than I do in the middle of the day, which is when SL normally goes down.
From my perspective, as a builder of lovely SL houses, and who must pay for half a sim tier each month, the better LL manages the outages to minimize the effect on other SL'ers, the more people are in world who may find their way to purchase my homes, thereby allowing me to afford my land using money earned from house sales, rather than from my meager first life paycheck.
The only real complaints that I hear from my SL friends about SL are about the downtime. And I think that if LL would focus on eliminating the perception that exists regarding the amount of downtime, the SL community would be even happier than they must already be to be spending so much money there.
Thank you, and best of luck, Lindens!
