A little late, but oh well. It should be able to be discussed anyway.

I proposed that SL should have a log saving feature that can be enabled at the player's will, checked or unchecked in General under preferences and saved a log of everything said in chat history on a player's hard drive. I don't know about anyone else, but it would be extremely nice to be able to recall what someone of myself said this day or another. All messengers have it somewhere, most decent programs do.

I'm not saying that the Lindens should rely on just our logs we send them that we have on our computer. They would still have their versions, *unaltered* in their offices for use in disputes and abuse claims.

As a primarily chat community, I believe that SL should let us be able to go back and retrace what we and other people have said. I'd like it for when people IM me and ask for a custom AV or just to recall a simple conversation.

Highlight what you want to save
Ctrl-C to copy
create a notecard
Ctrl-V to paste
Save the notecard.

It's not that simple. Most of the time I don't think to save things to a notecard. Besides, after a while, that's going to get very cluttered in my inventory. If anyone has ever played furcadia, they know what I mean.

It should just happen automatically.

It would be a very nice feature to have. There have been many instances where it would have been nice to have. With IM sessions going in there own files, and wiht a disclamer at the top of each remending peope that it is a TOS offenses to repost IMs.

Might I add...

I'd like the logs to be available outside of second life in a word document or something should SL happen to go down or my internet die, NOT in a little notecard.

If you want to be able to use them as evidence in an abuse dispute, you could have the log file automatically save a file hash checksum within itself or something.

Logging would be useful anyway, even without this feature, but I just thought I'd mention that.
