I would like to suggest this feature as I think it has merit.

The dynamics of SL is that a guy buys an item, and walks around a sim and
meets someone else... They see [item/clothing] or hear [if it's a sound/gesture]
and say "gee that's brilliant, where can I get one?"

That leads to general directions to a vendor or to SLexchange [sexchange as I call it]

I think things could be simpler.

Now, I make t-shirts, but frankly "can't be stuffed" (bothered) as we say in Oz
to make a vendor.

What I'd like to see in SL is when I'm making a shirt or uploading a wav, I'd like to
have a radio button in the editing window which says "donation ware".

Now, if I have a donation ware enabled t-shirt and I give the shirt to someone else,
and then a third sees the second person with it, they can give the shirt to the third.

When they wear it, they get a popup which says:
"Wolfie Rankin made this donationware shirt -
If you like it, please donate something to him" [donate XXXX]

The time *never* runs out on the item, as there is no time limit on donationware.
and the popup is *never* an annoying nag. it would only be on the screen for 10 seconds max, and then vanish.

The message would pop up each time the item is worn or activated, but vanish for good
if a donation is made.

For the seller, it would allow them creative freedom to do what they do, be it making
clothing, objects, sounds or gestures without them having to search for places to put up
a vendor or maintain one.

It would be easier for the dirt-poor user to get started, and it would allow more of us
to try out stuff which we may not have bought in the first place.

except.... I like to buy gifts for people and gift buying has always been rather clumsy
on SL as it's hard to give things to others... I don't see my idea helping much there either.

Donationware would allow us to create something fun and allow others to use it and
cash to just dribble in from far and wide.

The best way to see stuff is in use and I will most often buy something that I see
someone else with.

There's a lot more I could say, but I'll leave it there and let others discuss it.

Commission selling.

What I proposed a while back was "commision".

When you created an object for sale, you could set it "transfer", "no transfer", or "transfer with commission".

When you had an object like this, you could put the object in a "sale" box, and sell it, subject to the terms in the commission, such as:

Royalty percentage: 80%
Minimum price: L$50
Maximum price: L$100
Royalty fee: L$35
(just ideas, not saying that any or all of them are necessary or sufficient)

donationware

I think that idea is valid too... perhaps there should be a selector for the variety of
sale.

- Donationware

use the item, and pay whatever you like - you don't have to -
and the item is yours.

A well-off person might feel an item is worth $500L and will pay that,
but a person with perhaps $10L in their account might wish to pay $1L.
it's all relative. As I see it, it's better to get $1L than nothing.

I feel this plan is just really simple.

- Shareware

time limited, try before you buy.
after a while, the item ceases to rez unless purchased.
[deletes from the inventory]

- Swapware

Send someone a freebie for one of yours.
could get annoying after a while though if your item was popular.
you'd have to decide if you wanted the item with a "yes" or "no" click.
might need to mute the item after a while.

I'd like these implemented, I am a creative type and want to do my own thing
without worrying about silly vendors.

A lot of the time I give my t-shirts away for free, even though I have $20L on each
of them, cause I just can't be bothered.

If anyone wants a Summer Christmas, then IM me.

We Aussies do this silly thing each year where we are melting in summer heat of
40c [just over 100f] and yet still spray santa snow on our windows and give cards
with snow scenes and log fires... look it's STUPID! I'm sick of inflatable snowmen and
all the winter oddness. it's SUMMER! and my t-shirts say that it's OK to forget winter
and to celebrate a red hot Aussie Chritmas. :)

Don't forget to make it no-copy until bought, regardless of settings (ie if the item is meant to be copyable, it will become so once purchased), keeping track of all in-world rezzed copies and such to properly control this would be a nightmare.
Otherwise I like very much :)
