Criminal underuse of / commands

I find the interface very unintuitive at times and it would help if things like groups, friends and IMs had / commands eg "/IM Tharglet Wow, check this out" would send Tharglet an IM of "check this out!" and /groups would bring up group windows.
The added annoyance is I have wings equipped, which makes clicking on me not so easy, but I like the wings and don't want to remove them.
Any other chatters missing all the / commands that all good interfaces for chat have?

Personally I'd not want to encourage the use of /commands - for one, the UI isn't made for it - if you /msg someone, you still have to select their IM window to see their reply, so why not just select their window first and send the IM from that?

Also, if you make the client respond to a lot of / commands, then scripters will get the message it's ok to have scripts listening on channel 0, which contributes to server lag for everyone.

So, in summary, I'd prefer to avoid having /commands in the client if possible.

We already have buttons on the bottom of the screen for things like IM, and groups is only a right click on your av, a slight move up and right, and a left click away anyway. I can do that faster than I can type /groups.... plus, with gestures in 1.11 it'll be even easier.

So yeah, I don't see the usefulness of spending developer time putting /commands in place when there are lots of other more urgent issues and /commands would encourage laggy channel 0 listens and not be much easier anyway.

One could use # instead. Or even \.

And, as far as I know, IM responses are displayed in the main chat area, given that you don't have the Chat History window open.

I like this idea, though the main problem it has is that I don't really see what else it could be used for apart from IM's.
