More Controls?

Admitedly i have never run out of controls while scripting something, but i think more controls to play with could be nice.

So far we have Back, Forward, Left, Right, Up, Down and Mouselook Clicks

These do suit the purposes of everyday sl life, but if we ever want real game development to go on inside the world, i believe scripters will need more controls, just a few more keys would do nicely.

If you weren't in a position to be using these controls they could be toggled in the preferences and you could completely remap them to whatever keys you choose.

Well you can customize your keys in the keys.ini in the main SL folder.

But yes, I'd love to be able to use more key controls via script. Actualy I'd love it if you could grab every key on a keyboard, even the Function keys (F1-F12). It would allow true fully imersive games in SL.

I'm trying to think of a way to switch between some things for a small game, gestures are annoying because they ask to take control, and if I have say 10 different gestures thats 10 "Ok"s to click, using a dialog wouldn't be that fun either. It would be nice if I could take the 1-0 number keys and have those switch.

It would be awsome if you could have a FPS in SL that has you switch between weapons just like you do in say UT2k4, using either your mouse wheel or number keys.

You could use the current take controls permission, then you just have one script asking one question and bam.

I imagine some keyboard shortcuts would be non-takeable to prevent people from totaly locking you out of doing things. However this isn't really a problem currently.

If not the ability to take *any* key, then atleast more than we currently have. The current keys are very limiting.

For objects that take keys, why not have a confirmation box pop up in the upper right when it happens?

"Catherine Omega's Swashbuckling Script wants to take control of the following keys: W, A, S, D, I, J, K, L..."

It could even have a little graphic of a keyboard, depending on the layout, (*cough*international keyboard support*cough*) with the appropriate keys highlighted.

Joystick support...I'm sure there's an old thread about that somewhere.

BTW

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!
