My friend is tired of not being able to make an account with the name "Joseph <Anything>" because, lo and behold. . . They're all taken! I propose a database wipe for users who have not logged into their accounts for over a year. Deactivated accounts should have a thirty-day "grace period" in which a user might reactivate it. After said period, the account(and all possessions) would cease to exist.
Who's with me?

On a fascinating note, wowzers, you weren't kidding about the Josephs. I tried 20 different combos from the current list—ALL TAKEN!

Who's with me? I would be up for this, if the "grace period" is more than 30 days. Make it another full year just to be sure, having someones account deleted is a touchy thing, even if they haven't been there for 2 years... Oh, and I used to have a friend who spelled his name Josef, alternately Geoseph would be another interesting way to spell it IMO

I think there is a policy of wiping accounts if they aren't used in a certain time... at least, basic accounts. If the user is still paying, I think it's perfectly fair to let them sit on an account without logging in if they so choose. I'm almost certain that basic accounts are wiped after a few months of inactivity... although I'm pretty sure there is a grace period like you've described before the inventory is deleted entirely.

After your first basic account, you DO have to pay - I believe 10 dollars after each account. This is money that the user has paid for this account - I don't believe it would be fair for a toy company to take back your 10 dollar toy just because you haven't played with it in a few months... or ever. I believe according to the page when you sign up, the 10 dollar fee is waived for the first account, it's not simply free. Also, those accounts could possibly have Linden dollars in them - would it be okay to take away an account with supposed value?
I think the situation is alot more complicated then simply wiping inactive accounts after a few months. I've seen avatars in the finder that obviously haven't logged in in a LONG time, yet the account is still around. The immediate solution is for LL to release more last names, or allow you to pick a first name, and then randomly suggest a last name where the first name is not already taken. I think the latter would be easy to implement, and the best solution at the moment.
