Option to disable automatic return from (AWAY) status

Can we get an option in preferences to make the '(AWAY)' status mode persist until we explicitly turn it off, instead of turning off automatically when we move the mouse or type on the keyboard?

Many chat programs have a feature like this -- it simply maintains your AWAY status even if you use the keyboard, move mouse, or even type something, until you specifically issue a command to turn off the away status.

For example, XChat has a checkbox option in the Chatting / General preferences for "Automatically unmark away".

Oftentimes, I like to lurk about in the welcome area, but am busy doing other things on the computer and not really paying attention if someone says something to me. Setting myself AWAY would make it so that people don't think I'm ignoring them, but still allow me to keep the SL window up so I can watch the chat in case I notice someone needing help with a question or such.

As it is now, if I accidently move my mouse over the SL window, it will un-mark my (AWAY) status, causing me to have to re-set it again.

I imagine many people would found good use for this option as well =)

Thanks for reading =)

What don't you like about "Busy"?

Isn't that what you should be using?

Edit: ooh ooh ooh idea.... change the "BUSY" interface so you can replace the text with anything you want. Not the busy message, but the floating text.

Instead of busy you could have AFK, 'having tech issues', etc. etc.

You'd get lots of people using stupid things like "OMGOMGOMG U SUXX!!11!!!111" and leaving it on at all times too, but what can ya do? :D

LOL Garoad... funny example. I know Kex is very krafty and I have had experiences where I tried to go (AWAY) and then my desk (it sometimes bumps on its own, weird I know) knocked my mouse and I was sent back. (BUSY) hides chat overlay text so it's inconvenient -- right now, I'm trying some experiments with Fuzzy Duck's Emoti-Buddy and its AFK and BUSY modes. Problem with them -- not so much a problem with them as the system itself -- is they don't work in noscript areas. So, being in a Welcome Area is a tuffers.

Ahh, I've done that too. I see the point now.

I endorse this. As well as the account Kex gives above, I often find that I'll set myself as away, go afk, and come back and find that somehow I'm no longer Away, but yet I've not touched my mouse or keyboard, nor has anyone else. So I'd like the feature so I could make sure that my avatar will stay Away while I actualy am and not decide to come back to life on its own.

The Away and Busy modes need some work.

I have been begging for the Away to be "repaired" for months. Yeah, yeah.. I know it isn't "broke".. but it sure doesn't work properly! ;) Heck, I have a tiny lil Pomeranian and her tail wiggling next to the desk turns it off! LOL I think I remain set to Away MAYBE 5% of the time I turn it on.

What I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have is RETURN or BACK button!! Why not? It would work exactly as the STAND UP does when we are sitting.

Frankly, the current AWAY gives me the spookies.. I think our avies play when we aren't here and it just proves it! *snicker*

Yeah... something is really weird... I caught Torley Jr. like, dusting herself off several times the other day when looking from afar. Thing is -- she didn't have any attachments equipped to do this, and I'm reasonably certain there were no other latent scripts triggering her behavior. I'm still investigating to find out what made her so inclined to clean. Oh my. :)

I gave up on the Away setting long ago, and just made my own attachment to do the same thing. IMs don't get any message letting them know I'm not available to respond, but long delays for IM responses aren't that unusual.

Here's what people will find me wearing. (It slowly rotates around my head.)

...I should script my eyes to close when I put it on...
