a while ago vehicles were made to transmit damage to the person sitting on them. Good thought, since have a big enough vehicle otherwise and you'd be invincible. relying on people to script thier vehicles (and weapons for that matter) fairly so that they give the other guy a chance is a fools bet. The problem is that now, sitting on a vehicle makes you one heck of a big target. That sorta removes the fun of using vehicles in combat at all.

Here's my solution, for an object, keep a health meter, like for an avatar. When the vehicle takes 100% damage, unsit everyone on it and make it unsittable say until it's rezzed again. hence, vehicle is useless until it's rerezed.

A nice feature to go along with this would be a function to get the damage an object has taken so you can make a damage meter.

there are other things that could be added to this idea too if someone wanted to take the time. For instance transmit damage to the av sitting but have a max damage that can be done while sitting, say 90% damage. That way when the vehicle takes 100% and unsits everyone, you don't have a fully healthy av to deal with, just a "wounded" one with 10% health left.

I think this beats the way vehicles currently work in pvp areas.

Post your opinions please, pro or con, repetitive or not.

Being able to set the health of a set of prims would be great.

There are problems with forcing a re-rez of a vehicle. The one that comes to mind immediately is if the vehicle is copy-enabled, its UUID will change on re-rez, making it difficult for any scripts in it to be contacted by XML-RPC or email.

I haven't used xml rpc or email with my vehicles, but I suppose it might be necessary to keep the key. So fixing the sit on rez isn't the solution. I guess the health meter could just be like normal health and regenerate slowly. It could also just unsit people, not prevent them from sitting agian.

Because I don't write vehicles just for a private sim that doesn't use the health meter :P.
