Since you can ever only have two avatars in Second Life, I like to recall there was some talk about introducing the ability to change the name of your avatar. Anyone knows what came of this proposed feature? Is it going to be implemented? Have Linden Labs forgotten all about it?

Thanks. I conclude from this thread that nothing has been done to introduce name changing or player generated names. An easy and obvious improvement to the world, but alas, LL does not seem to care.

When I wanted to create a third avatar, I was stopped because I had already reached my account limit (one free, one premium). Moreover, I wasn't even able to scrap an old account to make room for a new one. If I had deleted an account, the old account was somehow still logged, actually making those who had reached the limit and quit the game entirely never able to come back! Yes, I know it sounds shocking, but it's supposed to be the truth. The only exception to this was for veteran residents, who were allowed up to some five or six accounts in the early days of Second Life, as opposed to only two.

i believe you can contact LL and have them remove your old accounts so you can make new ones, it's just not automatic. seems that torley was telling someone this fairly recently.
and still, since there's no verification, all you really need to another email addy and you can make a new one anyway, if you wish. this is why you hear ppl talking about having many many alts these days.

Please Onionpencil, this is so important to me I beg you to repair the syntax of the initial sentence; make it readable. I'd love to understand in detail what you are trying to tell me here. Sorry for being obtrusive, but I just can't read it. ~Moni~

Um...maybe I shouldn't get involved but since you asked...
He just mean that...the credit card is not needed now. And if you want to Register a New account, just use a new E-mail address. Go to the registration page and you'll see...

From: Usagi Musashi you mean it worked?????????? WAY back when cell phones were allowed, yes. You did have to know which phone service (and be one of three, Verizon, Cingular, and something else). Did it three times, once with someone else's phone, twice with mine (I deleted the first account).

I have three accounts now. Last time I tried to create a third account I got a message saying I'd already created an account within the past three months and to wait longer. I don't think it was a limit of 2 but a limit of one new one per 3 months on the old system using the same account data (CC). Also I know someone who's deleted like 10 accounts and gotten new ones since SL went live. The key seems to be wheither the account is basic or premium. Basic accounts go away almost immediately after being deleted, premium accounts have a timer on them before they're cleared from the database.
As for the original topic the FAQ states name changes aren't allowed because its your account information so once chosen can't be changed. I would like to see the ability to change the acocunt though for purposes of marraiges or like the account I just created (thanks tot he wonders of SL genentics) for my son. I couldn't give him the last name of me or my ex-partner who was his father because neither of those names are currently available.

I sends a text message to the phone, you type it in, and voila. *Gets out his phone* "Message from: support@secondlife.com (Second Life) Your Second Life verification code is "63d59c", please enter this verification code on our website."
