I don't know of anyone that uses this "Talk To" feature except the occasional noob that forgets they have separate IM and chat. Anyone else feel the same way, or am I missing some fantastic reason why this feature still exists?

Seconded

Seconded, have never used it. Also one of the worst things to happen when auto select takes controll.

Yep I agree, useless feature, please drop it and replace it with something more useful!

Agreed!
and it tends to hurt the newbie's feelings when you don't accept, even after you explain that there are better ways to chat. Is this one of those scripts that are running all the time adding to the lag? |

I also don't use "Talk To", and have not found any essential need for it so far. When privacy in a short range is needed, IMs usually suffice and don't grab control of your avatar.
Likely superfluous, and could be replaced with something better. _____________________

Believe it or not, I have found a use for it...
A newbie fell victim to the sit bug that leaves them starting at the sky with no way to look down... I used talk to to make her look at me, then released it and the bug was cured. Anyone else have any off the wall uses for odd UI switches? _____________________

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the whole point to talk to is to talk to people who are within a closer proximity of the person you target. Ya know, like you want to talk someone with out being in IM but quiet enough for most people around you not to hear. My best guess is its something either a roleplayer would apprecate, or if your in a large group and you'd rather just talk using that than IM *shrugs*
I use it sometimes and I figure there are some people becides me that use it too. |

Good way of putting it, Koden. Hmmm roleplaying eh... I should explore that possibility more.

I think we should change "Talk To.." to "Teleport to Torley's Location Immediately"
then it would be like a Torley Flash-mob! woot!Arti _____________________

Locks me up

The few times I've used it I get stuck.. even after both parties hit "end chat".
I like the idea, but it doesn't work well. |

haha yeah it is broken it basically overrides your movement keys and makes them function as camera scrolling when you enter "talk to"
the FIRST person to end the talk is stuck in camera scroll mode.... It's really annoying, especially when you both stand there staring at each other waiting for the other person to end the talk to first. It should be eliminated due to the pure griefieness of it.... Although passing around the talk to stuckedness (new word) like a game of hot potato can be fun among friends =P Oh yeah, I dont think teleporting gets rid of it either. |

The only time I've used it was to attempt to talk with some friends inside a home which was also located on land with a shop, to see if we could have a conversation without having it go as far as the shop (as it normally would). It worked ok, but was clunky, and in the middle of it, we were interrupted by a rather mushy lover's parting scene outside by two folks who probably should have been using IM but didn't seem to realize (or care) that anyone else was within earshot.
Talk is pretty much useless, but maybe it would be nice to be able to make chat-proof enclosures. ![]() Then we could have a Cone of Silence! ![]() neko _____________________

You know, it's a funny thing lately. With certain intimate conversations when I want to see body language but I prefer a touch more discretion, I've been using Talk To...
Apparently there still is a bug in Talk To, tho, that you can use it with someone over GREAT distances and people in between will hear. Try it from opposite ends of a game arena sometime, for example. ^_^ *grins* thanks Artillo ... hehe... _____________________
