Friends Page feep idea

Hi! I was thinking it's a shame I can't peek on my Friends page before I log in and IM someone though a web form to see if they are busy before I go though the hassles of logging in to SL. I'd be already logged into the SL web pages to see my friends so I don't see any security risks. And with my lower end system that would mean I don't have to nuke the big programs like Eudora or Firefox to give SL enough memory to run *right*. It'll run with them running but it'll lag like mad. But if the friend I want to visit comes on and a quick IM shows they are not busy it'd be no hassle at all but if they are after I nuke things and log in then it would be... So it would be nice to IM someone from a web form, as I'd already be logged into the web page already to see they are online.
