this is not a terribly important feature request, but it should be one of the simpler ones to implement.

In the client chat bar instead of having buttons for say and shout, add a pull down menu that selects whether you're whispering, saying, or shouting by default. so you can whisper if you're in a crowded area, or don't want to make it easy ot eavesdrop, or shout if you're working on a large project without having to do anything but choose what you want to do once. Resetting on teleport would be okay to keep people from leaving it on whisper or shout all the time

Yes, I would like something like this please. The current "Talk To" mode isn't useful to me. It would be good to have a way with a few settings, maybe with meter-ranges specified next to them, so that someone knows how far they are going to be whispering/talking/shouting. :)

Shouting is rude. I would not like to see it made easier to do. Just use chat if within 20m and use IM if they out of range. IM solves the eavesdropping problem too.

shouting is already easy :P. I still do it by accident frequently because of the darn ctrl enter convention. that's what people who want to be able to use newlines in instant messengers use to send messages. So, this wouldn't make shouting very much easier, though it would make it easier to do consistantly when you need to communicated with people in an area larger than 20 meters in radius which very frequently happens. you should see the wierd pa systems people come up with in their island sims. and whisper should be something an av can do (not that talk to thing).

Heya Zo, shouting by itself is not rude. It is a way to carry communication across longer distances in SL, when necessary -- such as when travelling by vehicle or across certain heights of a building. If you shout certain words with are meant with malice to the receiving party... now that is rude. :D

Rickard and I simply want additional tools to facilitate communication.

Is there a keyboard shortcut for Whisper, akin to the Ctrl-Enter shortcut for Shout? T'would be awful handy, I agree. :D

Ugh. No thanks. Too many people would just shove their chat to "Shout" and leave it there. All we really need is just a shortcut key for whispering, which we don't currently have. And we don't need it that badly.

Still, it would be awesomely nice for those conferences between more than two av close to each other. It seem so easy to implement too, newbies always ask what's the whisper shortcut.
