Looking at people's profiles it's easy to see that many of us have friends and family in SL that we wish to acknowledge in some special way. There are some of us in SL who would like to honor a few special someone's with the title of 'partner' ... not just one. Yes, we're a little unconventional, but our relationships are no less important to us than anyone elses.
Now, it's nice to put picture's up of our friends and families, and we can create groups for our circle of loved ones, but wouldn't it be grand if there were more than one 'partner' option? Or even groovier, a tab specifically for 'family' ... Where relationships like SLspouses, cousins, brothers, etc. could be acknowledged?
Suggestions like this have been offered before in the featured voting. And in the past they've gotten mediocre attention. But recently, someone offered Prop. 2402. In roughly one week it has gained 532 votes. I'm posting this message to renew attention to this proposition, as it seems to have done the best yet and I would hate to see it die.
Prop. 2402 is about acknowledging the diversity of secondlife's resident's and offering equality to all kinds of relationships. Thank you for your time, and hopefully, your support.

Post a link and I'll vote.. I'm lazy. I think it's a good idea, I wouldn't need it (hell I can't find ONE partner) but it certainly does leave out the family and the joint relationships that are in SL.

I can't find a way to link directly to the proposal in question... But if you go here: http://secondlife.com/vote/There's a nifty search tool you can use. Just type in 2402 and the Prop. comes right up Thanks!

Might be a nice use for the new web tab.

Actually, while surfing through the no's, this has been proposed and shot down a year ago. Prop: 790 - Multiple Partnerships 63 votes/14 voters/no placed Category: miscellaneous Sub: other Added: 2005-12-08 Feature Detail: Some relationships involve more than one person.. For Example I have two primary partners in real life and a secondary partner. Second life is a place where I can be me and live out my dreams. Unfortunatly, as of now I can't become partners with ... Linden comments: We do not plan on offering more than one partnership at the current time, although with the new group tools, it will be possible to create groups of only 2 people, which might help share power among several partners. However, this does not take into account the concept of po ... Linden comments: In the interest of simplicity, it seems like one partner per account makes the most sense.

500+ is way better than 64 or 90-something ...

Well, as you'll note those previous proposals received little support from SL residents. The proposal that I'm refering to: 2402 Has received enthusiastic support (500+ votes) this time from residents. Also, SL is an evolving product, and while the Linden's quite probably had not intention of offering a certain feature THEN, the point of the proposal is to show them that their is a need so that they will consider a usable feature NOW

However, in the no's they have closed things with high votes. LA search also shows it's been brought up repeatedly recently only to be shot down repeatedly. Of course, there's a few Lindens saying that they aren't even paying attention to the proposed vote things right now anyways (though other Lindens keep referring us to it).

Please, don't do that to the database... it's already being held together by prayers and duct tape only. A dead horse with makeshift wheels fixed to it after the legs fell off. Add a new feature that needs additional datasets and the head will fall off too.

Well, I certainly wouldn't want to be held responsible for headless horse-databases! *giggles* ... But LL is going to offer updates and we just want this to be included in one of them sometime in the near future ... ::: great mental image ::: *giggles uncontrollably*

Knowing our luck, it'd be the code that breaks SL altogether for a week.

Checked the proposal today, we're at 613 votes, with 97 users voting at the time of this post. Not bad, but would love to see it break 1000 votes. Over 200 users voting would be amazing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that more of you out there will see the value in this. Many thanks to all those who've given their support.
Peace, -saffy

Better proposal...
12-08-2006 14:08
Rather than adding new fields and changing the fields that are there, I propose that Linden Labs adds a new section to the profile for resident-managed attributes, and turn some of the existing ones into these. This proposal is in two parts... First, when you look at someone's profile they'd have a tab marked "More..." or "Attributes" or "Flags" or something similar, with a bunch of named blocks of text in it. In your own profile you'd be able to add, delete, or edit the text, and mark each field's permissions: "Private", "Group", or "Public" and "Profile only", "My scripts", "Ask", or "All". Second, there would be an LSL call that could be used to read (and, for your own attributes, set) these attributes. To make this efficient, you'd have to be online and in the same sim as the script when it made the call. Depending on the permissions you might have a dialog box come up or it might be automatically allowed or denied. If denied, the script wouldn't get any indication whether you had the attribute or not. You would also be able to have these attributes on objects, and copy them between objects to your profile. More in this thread. This would incorporate the family tab, the "public gender" field, and all the other special-purpose extensions to the profile that everyone has asked for. You could create special friends lists, put URLs in here, stream information, anything else that you need to keep track of in-world or among your friends or group.

I like the idea of a family tab in addition to the partnet box on the main page... where you can link SL/RL family...
Problem is how to limit the size of it, i dont want to see it as a replacement for groups!
