I think it'd be nice to get a new build menu. I created a photo to help explain what I mean.

woulda used image code but it seems to be off.

anyways where build use to be, if you click the new Create button it will bring up a drop down menu, in this case popup which will allow you to select what you wish to create.

Clicking Script will promt you to name your script and also ask what permission properties you wish to apply to it.

Clicking Object will bring up the edit menu.

Clicking Notecard will promt you to name your card and also ask what permission properties you wish to apply to it.

Now heres the new feature I was hoping could be possible
The texture icon when clicked will bring up a small paint-like program, after promting you for a texture name and permission options, this mini program will allow you to create basic textures with the sl palette for colors, your standard paint options (cut, fill, brush, text, etc), and maybe a few extra tools like blur and stamp.

After editing your creations, saving them will place them into thier apropriate folder.

I was also wondering about apperance editing.
Would it be possible to ghost limbs for you avatar?

Lets say I wanted to make a mech arm for my AV. Instead of using an invisibility prim script, I would alter my appearance and ghost my left arm up to my shoulder, still keeping its functions as an arm so the mech arm can operate like one.

What do ya think lindens, is it possible? Would you bother with it?

The build button is intended to bring up the build menu so you can build objects. The problem with expanding its functionality to scripts and notecards is that you don't just name them, you have to choose where in your inventory you want to put them, so you're going to end up going through your inventory and choosing a spot anyway, so just do that and go ahead and create the new script or notecard there. All this ends up doing is making the people who actually use that button to build have to take one more step.

As for integrating a simple paint program into Second Life, I doubt that will be done any time soon, not that it couldn't. The main reason being that upload fees are the largest sink for linden currency, check out the new economic statistics page:

https://secondlife.com/currency/economy.php

The sinks help take lindens back out of the market so that their value does not diminish. So it's just not in the interest of the SL economy to do so. That and implementing the paint program would be reinventing the wheel when they have plenty of other things to do. There are a lot of good paint programs out there, some don't even cost you anything. (like GIMP and Paint.NET etc.)

I do like your ghost idea though. If you could have a slider for each of the parts of the avatar that adjusts the transparency, that would be neat and useful.

yeah adding a paint program would probably cause coflicts to texture upload sinks like it was stated... Its not practiocal to do it in game you can actually do this in photoshop or paintshop pro or even Gimp (which is totally free) and just upload it. Simply put it's a useless feature aside from a work around to texture uploads. Just get that plugin that lets you go back and forth between 3ds max and photoshop that'd solve that problem. or get bodypaint 3d if you want this lets you paint directly on a 3d object and creates the texture needed for it :). I've used it as a basis to try and make clothing b4 hehe :). Quite simply put none of what you stated is practical how SL is setup currently. Its easy to go to your inventory click create and script folder notecard etc. Why add a feature on the tool bar that already exists elsewhere? If things are explained to people its not neccassary~!!!!!

I agree that most of your proposals are pointless but having a trans option for limbs or avatar in general would be HIGHLY useful in many regards. And it would encourage people to stop using invisiprims so much which i consider a bane to SL. I hate it when im looking at a build and i see that invisiprim outline that totally fubars EVERYTHING around it and directly behind. They're ugly and cause more render problems than help.

PLEASE impliment avatar transparency !!!

well atleast one idea survived

I hate invis prims too, you scan someones avatar and then any other avatar behind them disappears too.
