Preference for clicking in text field behavior

Concerning this fix: "* Clicking in text fields in Edit Tools selects the input position without highlighting the entire field"

I appreciate the idea, and understand how it can be taken as a bug, but I find it slows me down - I am so used to it selecting the entire text, so I can quickly type a new value into an editbox. It's just my preferred way of it acting when editting objects.
I understand that for some text editboxes, the current (only select an input position) would be desired.

Having a preference for changing between older SL behavior and 1.12.0 behavior would be nice. Then those like me that want the old way can have it.. and those that want the new behavior can have it.

I don't necessarily mean making object-edit textboxes and other textboxes acting differently.. just a global preference.

Maybe they could use INSERT MODE for this? The way REPLACE MODE is implemented in SL is bloody awful, and I'm always having to cancel a change and start over because I hit "Insert" instead of "Page Down" and now I'm in "stupid replace mode".

Redefining it to determine how the insert/select point is set when clicking on text fields would make it actually useful.

(am I wrong, do people actually use "replace mode"?)

How about instead of clicking in the field, you double-click right off the bat? I think this will hilight the entire field for you. If not, it should. The reason this is good is threefold: first, it's more in line with what other standard UIs are doing, so it's easier for people to figure out without having to read help files; second, it should satisfy users like you and users like me (I prefer a single click NOT to hilight the entire field); and third, it avoids adding yet another option to the preferences window.
