Ability to turn off Avatar indicators on maps for land owners

I think a good feature would be to be able to turn off green avatar indicators on the main map and mini-map for land owners.

It would open up a new element of stealth that could be brought to combat sims and RPG sims like Gor alike.

Land owners could have this facility and be able to toggle this feature at their own discretion.

A hook could be applied to put into LSL to be able to toggle this feature, allowing features such as a "radar mode" if someone wears a specific item.

I don't see many problems with such a feature for the experience as land owners have the ability to turn off flying in their sims.

I'm also sure this feature wouldn't cause too many technical problems and would not be greatly time consuming to implement.

It could also significantly bring down the instances of griefer attacks on people who wish to have privacy, for example building in independent sandboxes.

Any suggestions?

The social problems... oh my god.

This would produce all kinds of social problems by enabling stalkers and voyeurs to operate SO much more effectively.

Turning off flying doesn't let people sneak up on you unseen.

This has been hashed over again and again, and even the people who want to get rid of the green dots on the world map have agreed that they need to leave the mini-map alone.
...

And it wouldn't help for gamers. There's all kinds of ways you can script a HUD to locate everyone around you just as effectively as the mini-map.

I disagree. With the admin abilities - any admins of land could enable it when others couldn't. Not to mention roleplaying sims would greatly benefit.

Great idea! Avatar radars and minimap blips disablement would be a great thing for us roleplayers. :)

I'm sorry, I don't want any old so-and-so peeking through the window whilst I am adjusting my corset.

I think your missing the point of the idea. This ability would be under land ownership options. If you own land, you would be able to disable it. Generally, all land would have this option turned on unless of course it's a roleplay sim or the owner of the land turns it off themselves. So if your adjusting that corset on your own land and you keep this ability turned on - you need not worry. ;)

I'm *deliberately* missing the point. In case you hadn't noticed, we are in a state of anarchy around here, and I am taking the opportunity to misconstrue practically anything.

Incidentally, I dislike the way that you imply that I support furry ageplay.

Your incorrect. It's not misconstruing, it's called ADD.

Furry ageplay? Where did that come up?
I completely agree with the link above.

Limiting it to landowners is hardly a limit at all. All a stalker would have to do would be to buy advertising prims near your home and sit there invisible.

Limiting it to estates, and having it required for all sims on an estate, would be OK... since estates can already be hidden from the map, and you couldn't have "some dots" shown and others hidden.

Or having a mode where a parcel owner could prohibit the mini map from being displayed at all (so it was obvious what was going on... sand stalkers couldn't use it) while you were on the parcel, that might be OK.

But not just hiding green dots for anyone who can pony up six bucks a month for a premium account.

No, what I think it is (anti-stalker wise) is that it only works on your land for people on your land. Anyone outside your land will see the dots on your land and anyone in your land will see the dots outside your land (if you have dots turned off).

Even having it limited to dots on the parcel would let a voyeauristic landowner abuse visitors.

Having it disable the mini-map on the parcel would make it obvious that something was being hidden. Also, disabling the mini-map would be more useful to game designers, so that people couldn't use the mini-map to see what direction they were facing and where the prims were on the land...
