I would like to see a whiteboard style application within sl that would allow multiple users to draw on a board in sl. There are a few ways I can see something like this being implimented, I am only listing the two I see as most benefitial (both of them together would be fantastic!).

1) A prim face whiteboard option.
  1. Select a face
  2. Check "Use as whiteboard..." option box
  3. Option panel opens.
Options panel would include...
  1. Allow anyone to draw on whiteboard
  2. Allow selected user(s) to draw on whiteboard
  3. Allow selected group(s) to draw on whiteboard
  4. Allow anyone to clear whiteboard
  5. Allow selected user(s) to clear whiteboard
  6. Allow selected group(s) to clear whiteboard
  7. Allow anyone to save whiteboard image
  8. Allow selected user(s) to save whiteboard image
  9. Allow selected group(s) to save whiteboard image
Prim based whiteboard options such as tools and image saving would either have to be greatly simplified (basic disc brush only or something) or have a submenu or specific floating tab or similar, not sure exactly how implimentation of this would be handled...love to hear other thoughts.

2) IM style whiteboard
  1. Open Friends or Contact List Menu (inventory as well?)
  2. Right click on user or group, select Invite to Whiteboard Session...
  3. Whiteboard invitation would be sent to selected user or group.
  4. If Declined initator recieves ";(Name) has declined your whiteboard invitation." message.
  5. If Accepted - Open whiteboard window.
Whiteboard window would include all the basic functionality one finds in the MSN Messenger whiteboard.
Top Bar: (icons could suffice instead of a dropdown menu)
  1. File... Save Whiteboard As... (bmp/jpg/tga)
  2. File... Clear Whiteboard.
  1. Color picker
  2. Brush options (limited, square, disc, size value)
  3. Rectangle Tool
  4. Disc Tool
  5. Text tool (SL Font, not system specific unless feasible)
Anyway, I'd love to hear other people's thoughts and suggestions so please, feel free to chime in.

There is a spray can script you can buy.

It set's particles and then refreshes them as they expire.

That is a good solution for the current lack of a whiteboard, but an actual whiteboard application could be far more effecient and with a broader range of uses and less client lag (possibly, depends on implimentation I spose).

Who makes the spray can? Sounds like a cool product.

I've wanted a 2D whiteboard in SL for ages! Sounds like a technological step back too, doesn't it?

I was recently using Macromedia Breeze with Pathfinder and it is a LOT of fun!

Kyrah Abattoir makes one.

Patch Lamington also mentioned Starax Statosky's paintboard recently:

With the browser integration coming, you might see this sort of thing being possible in SL. In the meanwhile, I suggest openCanvas for collab work. Once upon a time (1.1, which is what that link leads to) it was freeware, but consecutive versions require payment. Still, for such an old piece of software it works surprisingly well and features a wonderful networking feature for up to 4 others.

Best of all, it's got a very small memory footprint so it shouldn't lag at all with SL running.
