I have a small suggestion: the ability to use the preview function for uploading textures even when you don't have the money to actually upload those textures. Preview's a really useful tool -- I know I use it on textures I'm not even close to uploading yet, as a way of checking for problems. I'm under the impression that preview is a client side thing, so I don't think this would be a strain on the servers. Maybe just the actual upload button in the preview window can be grayed out, instead of the entire upload option being grayed out on the drop down menu.

I had a friend who asked me awhile ago, "Why can't I upload anything?" We went through a lot of steps, and I scratched my head and sat down because I couldn't figure it out. Finally, we identified the problem: he had L$0 in his account balance! The most obvious thing, despite it saying the charge in the menu... d'oh!

But... I must ask... how often do you go below L$10? :)

Well, I've since succumbed to buying money, and I've made some money, so hopefully not often anymore! But I'm on a basic account, and I was sort of perpetually broke my first few weeks.

The charge is annoying and I've seen a vote feature for refunds on deleted textures, which is handy as if you get a texture wrong you have to pay AGAIN to upload it. Maybe a free over-write for atexture or something. Because it's starting to feel like the british government here, taxes for everything.

I suppose a clothing preview couldn't hurt.See the texture on yoru avatar or maybe a menquin in the upload window to see how it fits before uploading and cashing out. Would allow for making better textures instead of people not wanting to pay to re-upload something for a few adjustments.

Um

that already exists  It has for a year or so now.

The poster means, she would like to be able to use the preview even if she doesnt have the money to actually pay for the upload, which I gather you can't right now... I dunno, I've never been down so low I've ever concerned myself with the upload fees.

The current preview window has several disatvantages:

1) For some strange reason, the preview avatar have a very strange color, making it difficult to judge how a texture would look on a skin. One should be able to adjust the color of the preview model.

2) You can only view one texture at a time projected at one of the UV maps. Difficult to see if there are any visible seams between the different UV maps when making a skin for instance.

3) It is difficult/impossible to get at certain angles with the camera. And movement is way too constrained.

4) The window is fairly small. I want to scale it freely - even fill my screen.

An update of the preview window would be most welcome! ;)

Preview Microsim?

How about a preview microsim implemented entirely in the client?

So you could load stuff into it, try textures or anims out on a rendered av. The client's already got all the code in it.

Hiro Protagonist had one of those things in his deck in Snow Crash, he used it to practice on his bike.

If SL is supposed to be like Snow Crash...
