I notice that there is a definite lack of swampy zones... You know... many rivers with very soft olive and brown colored land... Cypress trees or mangrove... Lotsa water with little bitty islands and sharply controlled terraforming...

I know that there would be SOME people that would like it...

Agree. More bayou. :) Murky vines, crocodiles, and gumbo.

Maybe this will be done by Resis on a private island, since it doesn't look like Atoll's heading in that direction.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a major chunk of the new continent/Atoll a swampland? I know I've flown around there and got that impression.

Of course, it could use some work as far as flora and fauna are concerned (a mangrove tree, some sawgrass, and a few alligators would be nice).

Calling it a swampland is like saying a white elephant has a tan, or calling a corporate office a "tru 2 tha game" ghetto. I'm sorry, IT DOESN'T CUT IT! :O

It lacks the special swampland texturin' flava that can only come upon cultivating special incredients prepared by someone like Screamin' Jay Hawkins.

OMG.

We all know that if swamps are added people will just fill them in to make parking lots for Cay-Mart. Indiginous plants and wildlife will be destroyed along with possible cures for virtual diseases.

Ok i'm done trolling, swamps would be a welcome addition to SL's diverse enviroment and could lead to many new and creative builds.

Would there be any point to swamps without gators and snakes? ADD FAUNA TO SECOND LIFE!

Er... I need to find some votes so I can make a prop for this....

Builds which blend with the terrain are a pleasure to see. I have enjoyed businesses around me in the Atoll continent which have been mindful of their surroundings with their build. Replacing paradise with a parking lot is not restricted to business establishments. LL provided the basics for island themed builds with walkways and other structures in the Atoll Continent Stuff folder in our library. Everytime I see a house built on astroturf floating on water I sigh and wonder why.

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I wanted to respond to the last post...

It's because some people cannot imagine anything different than the suburban lifestyle they have known their whole lives, and seek to recreate it everywhere the land allows. It is the same in RL as in SL.

Others feel that "Taming" the land fulfills some urge to be dominant over the wild parts of the world. (This urge may simply be a more naked form of the first issue.)

Personally, I am all for trying to build according to what you have to work with. My home in Sabulella(32, 184) is something of a cross between styles. I wanted to preserve the rocky nature of the islands there and the "South Florida" look and feel my neighbors had established. I think I did OK... I have one room in my house that is entirely submerged, with a sea garden outside of the Glass Block wall. I usually leave my house unlocked, so please feel free to go in and look around. If you like what you see and are interested in having me build something for you, IM me and we can talk about a custom structure or environment.
